When They First Met

New Year’s 2013

Their story starts on the very first day of 2013. Alex was in from Los Angeles visiting his family in Houston for the holidays. He joined his brother, Scott, for a New Year’s Eve party that was hosted by Hannah, Scott’s girlfriend at the time, and also Margarita’s friend from Trinity HCAD. Margarita had no idea Alex existed and much less that he would be there. Alex had been intrigued by Margarita in pictures and hoping she would show. Fortunately, she did and that’s where their story began. No, they were not each other’s midnight kiss...and while they both ended up hitting it off...Alex didn’t even ask for her number! Fast forward to the summer of 2013 that brought Alex back to Houston. Margarita and Alex saw each other again at a Margarita Festival, and this time Alex DID get the digits. They spent a lot of time together that summer but both knew it was not the right time for a long distance relationship. Alex returned to the west coast to continue his career in the film and TV industry. Margarita stayed in Houston and soon started a new job in consulting.

The Reunion

September 2017

An act of fate (or more like Hannah and Scott getting married) brought Alex and Margarita together again almost 5 years later. Margarita knew Alex would be the best man at the wedding, so she did her best to find a date, hoping to avoid an encounter with Alex and a date of his own. That plan failed miserably and Margarita was solo. But fate can be precocious, and guess who else showed up stag... Much to her surprise, the first person she ran into at the hotel in Houston was Alex...dateless. Alex enthusiastically said hello and was a gentleman as always. Margarita and Alex kept running into each other that weekend. At the wedding reception, Alex finally asked Margarita to save him a dance. They finally got that dance to none other than Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody Who Loves Me."

The Courtship

November 5, 2017 - November 2, 2019

Margarita and Alex realized that they still had feelings for each other and were open to trying to make it work this time. Alex was on a project in Mongolia, and Margarita was still living in NYC. At 12 hours apart, it was no easy task to keep in touch. Upon Alex's return to the states, fate intervened again; Margarita was tasked with a project in Los Angeles. She would be traveling there weekly which allowed them to build on their relationship and make things official! Hard as it was, they pressed on over the long distance, working things out so they could see each other every few months and speaking to each other daily. Soon enough "I love you" came, and they started trying to figure out how to live in the same city. If you haven't realized the trend yet, fate stepped in again and Margarita's company offered her a position which would require her to move to LA! Margarita made the move and they were finally able to spend time together and grow their relationship.

The Proposal

November 2, 2019

As time moved forward, Alex and Margarita's lives became more and more about each other; they vacationed together, spent time with each other's families, and eventually moved in together. It became clear to Alex that they were building a life together, and the joy that brought him every day made it clear what he had to do next. So he saved...and saved, and then he saved some more. While he was saving he shopped - if you didn't know, there's a lot that goes into picking an engagement ring. He shopped and he saved, more desperate every day to find the perfect ring and ask Margarita that most important question in life. With the advice of friends and family, things finally came together and Alex had the ring. He made a plan; a Saturday morning, breakfast in bed, then the question. He got up before her as quiet as he could to go downstairs and get things ready. Just as the coffee was ready, Alex heard noises coming from upstairs. He made a cup for Margarita, and went up to check on her. She was grateful for the coffee and mentioned that she was going to get up and go to the gym...so she didn't want breakfast... Alex, however, is a stubborn guy and would not be deterred. He casually left her with the coffee, then collected the ring and his nerves. Alex returned, got down on one knee and asked Margarita to spend the rest of her life with him. ...and she said YES!

The Quarantine

2020

Alex and Margarita finally had the date set, perfect venue and church where Margarita went to school. Never in a million years did they imagine that a global pandemic would force them to postpone their dream wedding. In comes COVID-19. Hoping to still get their dream wedding and after several conversations, Alex and Margarita made the difficult decision to postpone their wedding almost and entire year. This added a whole new quarantine adventure to their story...finding even more love for each other and more and more excited to become husband and wife.
