The Detroit Riverwalk has been named the best riverwalk in America three years in a row by USA TODAY's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards (2021, 2022, and 2023). It is 5.5 Miles long running from the Ambassador Bridge to the Belle Isle Bridge. You can walk, run, bike, ride, scooter etc…Lots of play areas for the kids.

Belle Isle Park has received several awards for its master plan and specific features. It is a 985-acre island park located in the Detroit River near downtown Detroit and provides great views of Detroit to the North and Canada to the South. It houses the oldest public aquarium in the US (opened 1904) and a beautiful conservatory housing indoor / outdoor botanical gardens.

Pewabic Pottery store: Founded in1903 producing handcrafted pottery and tiles for buildings in Detroit. It was a leading force in the Arts and Crafts movement and is a unique store.
Detroit Institute of Arts is a must-see cultural treasure with one of the finest collections in the US, founded in 1885. It was voted the best art museum in the country by USA Today readers in 2024. It is renowned for its Detroit Industry Murals which is a series of 27 fresco panels painted by Diego Rivera between 1932 and 1933.
Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village: It is a multi-faceted destination that aims to inspire visitors about American history and innovation. Check out their website.
Greektown (Home of the Hollywood Casino Hotel where we have the hotel block for our guests). In 2023, Greektown raised $20M for a new streetscape to transform and further pedestrianize the area. The major glow-up will be completed in 2026, maybe in time for the wedding? It is a historical and Greek cultural district with one of the last surviving Victorian era commercial streetscapes in downtown Detroit. Lots of great restaurants and bars with live music and rooftop options. FYI: There will be a Cinco De Mayo Bar Crawl Fiesta on May 2nd , 2026 (wedding day). So be prepared for some crowds in the area with the event kicking off at 5pm.
Eastern Market has been a Detroit institution since 1891 and is one of the largest historic public market districts in the US at 43 acres. It is a community hub known for its vendors selling fresh produce, flowers, plants and specialty foods. You can access the Dequindre Cut Greenway at Eastern Market (among other places) and take it all the way to the Riverwalk (2 miles). The Dequindre Cut is a below street level pathway, formerly a Grand Trunk Western Railroad line. It is known for its murals and urban and graffiti artwork. More murals are commissioned each year.
For big Motown fans, the Motown Museum is the birthplace of Motown Records and is where Berry Gordy launched the label in 1959. The museum preserves the legacy of the music and artifacts from the labels’ history.
The Detroit Zoo is a global leader in conservation and animal welfare with multiple interactive exhibits housing 200 species and 2000 animals on 125 acres.
Michigan Central Train Station: Take a 90 min historical tour through what is now a 30 acre tech and cultural hub in Detroit. It is a Beaux Arts architectural masterpiece and historically significant as a gateway for immigrants. It was once the tallest train station in the world and served as the primary gateway to Detroit from 1913 to 1988. Its renovation was completed in 2024.
The Schvitz is a historic Russia style bathhouse special for its century long history as a social club since the 1930’s and is a rare surviving example of a traditional bathhouse. It comes with a very notorious reputation as the bathhouse frequented by the Prohibition-era “Purple Gang” mobsters.
If you love shopping (and architecture), head over to the Peacock Room in the Fisher Building. It is a unique boutique known for its curated selection of dresses, jewelry and gifts. It includes vintage and modern items. The Fisher building itself is known for its Art Deco design and lavish interior details making it a prominent landmark and is nicknamed Detroit’s largest Art Object. It was completed in 1928 by architect Albert Kahn, who also designed the Detroit Athletic Club (our wedding venue).
The Michigan Science Center is a Smithsonian Affiliate science hands on museum in downtown for children. It has 220 interactive STEM exhibits features additional attractions like IMAX and a Planetarium.
If the Detroit Tigers are in town, enjoy an open-air MLB baseball game at Comerica Park. The current stadium was built in 2000 in the retro-classic style and still has a Ferris Wheel with the cars shaped like baseballs. It is directly next to the DAC.
Detroit has some fun Speakeasys to explore in the evenings such as the Bad Luck Bar, the Standby, and the Aladdin.
Detroit has some Cabaret type music venues such as the Willis Show Bar and Cliff Bells.
Detroit has some unique eclectic bars such as The Sugar House, Jojo’s Shake bar, the Candy Bar, and Sid Gold’s (Karaoke), The Skip alley walkway.
The Fox Theatre was once one of the largest and most elaborate movie palaces of the 1920’s and is a designated national historic landmark and a current popular destination for Broadway shows, concert and other events. Check out their website for any events around the wedding.
The Detroit Tigers have a home series with the Texas Rangers over the weekend at Comerica Park! There's a game on Friday at 6:40 PM and on Saturday at 7:15 PM. With many folks getting downtown Friday and the ceremony starting at 5:00 PM on Saturday and the venue being located near Comerica Park, it's possible traffic and/or parking are a bit more congested than usual, so we wanted to make folks aware for planning purposes.
