Laura & Alex met at one of Alex's shows (naturally), immediately after which they had their first date (consisting of two parts). The first part of the date was spent wandering around Reno's Earth Day festival, engorging themselves with food truck grilled cheeses and crashing a middle school art fair, ruthlessly critiquing the students' use of typography (comic sans galore). For part two, they reconvened at Public House for a few cocktails, where Alex attempted to seduce Laura with his private collection of standup comedy musings. She was not impressed, but still liked him anyways. What started out as friends became a love affair of mischief, mayhem, music, food, art, traveling, and cats. The rest is history.

While on their annual summer getaway to Santa Cruz, Laura had a hunch Alex may pop the question at The Boardwalk, but alas he had something better in mind...The next morning the two "Love Seagulls" boarded a whale watching boat in foggy Moss Landing, CA. With shaky legs (because hello, they were on a boat), Alex sneakily handed his phone to a teenage girl (surely a wiz with a phone camera) to take simple photos of the two together at the bow of the ship. Then—to everyone's shock—dropping down on one knee, Alex proposed to Laura. Surprising her with the ring of her dreams, the two were surrounded by leaping humpback whales, barking sea lions, and soaring pelicans all joining in a magical chorus-line of celebration. A day to remember!
