From time to time, Alex enjoyed a routine of getting dressed up, and having dinner for 1 at the bar of Fleming's Steakhouse in Memphis. Each time Kristen was working on the nights he came in, Alex would find an empty bar stool, sit, and be greeted with a Jack on the rocks, and a smile. Like everyone else in this world, the year 2020 ushered in a lot of change. For Kristen and Alex, their change would require a leap of faith. One night in late January of that year, Kristen courageously handed her phone number to Alex offering him an opportunity he didn't see coming. They scheduled their first date the next week at Tsunami in midtown. Neither had been on a first date in years, and though they had come to know each other up to that point, the nervousness from a first date was hard to mask. The spark from that night would offer a welcome distraction from the ups and downs that the world would endure over the next two years. And in that time, they would come to see the potential of what a life together could bring. On Saturday February 5, 2022, Alex was trying to coordinate a date night to celebrate their 2nd anniversary since they began dating. In the midst of power outages and recovery from a winter storm, he had determined that this would be the night to cement forever what they already knew in their hearts. Upon finishing dinner, they stepped out into the cold ready to go home. It was then Alex dropped to one knee, held Kristen's hand, and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. Oh, and Kristen did say yes....well, it started out as confusion, and because he didn't speak up, the first response was "What? What are you doing?." But once she realized what was happening, she said yes. This coming Spring, 2023, Kristen and Alex anxiously await the opportunity to celebrate and share with family and friends, a memory they will always cherish.
