This is Alex's favorite mountain town, only 1.5hrs west of Golden. If you have an extra day or two Breckenridge is a great way to spend it. There are tons of beautiful hikes, a gondola, an alpine slide, or you can just enjoy the scenery, food and shopping in town. Traffic on I-70 can get bad around the weekends so plan accordingly.
Golden has a very cute downtown area with lots of shops and restaurants and clear creek running through the middle.
See the Rockies play and/or go to one of the many nearby sports bars and breweries to enjoy the heart of downtown Denver
Go to a concert or morning yoga if you have time or just walk around one of the best venues in the country. There are hiking trails around the amphitheater and the view from the top is beautiful. Worth seeing even if not for a concert!
There are dinosaur footprints just outside of Golden. You can take a guided tour or just walk the path on your own to see them. Only takes a couple hours.
Rocky Mountain NP is a beautiful park with tons of hikes of all levels and great drives! It is about 2 hours from Golden/ Denver so you will definitely need an extra day for this but it's worth it. Estes Park, the town just outside the national park is also a great little mountain town to explore. The Stanley Hotel from "The Shining" is in Estes and offers tours!
Cute little town just up I-70 with some nice hot springs. There are better hot spring further into the mountains but these are great if you want something close. Reach out for recommendations on the father ones.
Great hiking and rock climbing area just outside of Golden
Great museum in downtown Denver. It's next to the zoo so you could do both in a day if you want. There are also many good restaurants nearby.
It's a fantastic zoo, what more do you need to know?!
Small but great aquarium!
There are a million great micro and not so micro breweries throughout Golden and Denver. Coloradans love their beer! There are also some wine tasting rooms.
In addition to our beautiful venue, Lookout Mountain has a few other recreational activities for you to enjoy if you get to the wedding a bit early, or want to go check out the area in the days before or after: - The Lookout Mountain Nature Center and Preserve shares a parking lot with our venue. It has a nice little museum and experts you can talk to about the wildlife in the area. Feel free to check it out if you get to the wedding a bit early! - Buffalo Bill's grave is (supposedly) located on Lookout Mountain. Who knows if any of it is true, but they certainly claim it is. You'll see signs everywhere. We've never been but we've heard the museum is interesting. Feel free to check it out if you have some time to kill. - There is also a heard of bison that sometimes hangs out in the area, usually right off the highway at the base of the mountain. See if you can find them!
