How We Met

10.20.16

Once upon a time, in the digital realm of dating apps and swipes, two souls found each other in the vast sea of potential matches. It was October of 2016 when Alex and John crossed paths in that mysterious land of pixels and profiles. Like any good modern love story, their initial encounter wasn't without its hurdles. With busy careers pulling them in different directions, scheduling that all-important first date was like trying to coordinate a dance between two shooting stars. But finally, the universe decided it was time for their paths to converge, and they found themselves face to face at a cozy Mexican restaurant in Annapolis. Now, they say there are certain topics you should avoid on a first date: politics, religion, kids, and the like. But when Alex and John sat down together, they tossed those rules out the window faster than you can say "guacamole." They dove headfirst into discussions about everything from the state of the world to their hopes and dreams for the future. As the hours passed and the restaurant began to empty, it became clear that this wasn't just any ordinary first date. The conversation flowed effortlessly, and before they knew it, they were the last ones left in the restaurant, still lost in each other's words. From that moment on, they embraced the uncertainty of where this newfound connection might lead. They took each day as it came, navigating the twists and turns of life together with a healthy dose of humor, sarcasm, and plenty of love. And now, seven years later, here we stand on the brink of a new chapter, ready to say "I do" and embark on the next adventure together. Through all the ups and downs, the laughter and the tears, and raising a fur baby named Hudson, we've remained by each other's side, proving that sometimes, even in a world of swipes and screens, true love finds a way to flourish.

The Proposal

2.22.23

Picture this: a picturesque ski vacation in Park City, Utah, where the slopes are pristine, the air is crisp, and the romance is... well, let's just say it's a bit unconventional. Enter Alex, the suave and confident skier who believes he can teach anyone the art of shredding the slopes. Then there's John, who, bless his heart, is about as coordinated on skis as a newborn giraffe. Despite Alex's best efforts, John spends more time tumbling down the mountain than actually skiing, with Alex's helpful shouts of "Pizza!" and "French Fry!" doing little to improve the situation and the mood. After several days of John's less-than-graceful descents, it's decided that perhaps a morning of skiing followed by an afternoon off is in order, especially since dinner plans with friends are on the agenda. But first, there's the small matter of waking John up from his nap, a task that Alex dreads almost as much as John dreads being woken up. John, groggy and disheveled, emerges from his nap looking like he's just wrestled a bear and lost. Hoodie? Check. Sweatpants? Check. Bedhead that could rival Einstein's? Double check. But Alex, ever the romantic, insists that they clean up and dress nicely for dinner at a fancy restaurant. Reluctantly, John shuffles downstairs to spruce up, though "spruce up" might be a bit generous considering he barely manages to throw some product in his hair, grabs a flannel shirt and jeans, and declares himself presentable enough for civilized society. Fast forward to dinner at the Stein Eriksen Lodge Deer Valley, where the snowy mountain landscape sets the perfect backdrop for a romantic moment. Alex, seizing the opportunity, suggests they take a picture on the deck overlooking the breathtaking scenery. As John turns to pose for the photo, he's met with the sight of Alex down on one knee, a ring in hand and a look of nervous excitement on his face. For once in his life, John is speechless, his usual quick wit failing him. And so, surrounded by friends and the beauty of nature, Alex and John are engaged, sealing their love in a moment that's as unforgettable as it is unexpected. Who knew that a ski trip gone awry could lead to such a perfect happily ever after?
