Alex and I went to school together from middle school through high school. We really started to get to know each other our freshman and sophomore years and eventually came to be best friends during our junior and senior years. I actually was able to convince Alex to serve as an FCCLA officer with me senior year so we got to spend a lot of extra time together. While in high school we both loved hanging out together but since we were both dating other people we never explored anything more than a friendship. After high school I moved to Arkansas for college and Alex made sure to keep in touch. He was so intentional in keeping our friendship alive. Eventually I moved back home to finish school and in 2015 one of our friends, Ashly my maid of honor, brought to Alex's attention that I had a crush on him forever. To this day Alex will claim he had no idea but I am not convinced that is the truth! After Ashly opened that can of worms we couldn't avoid it any more. We finally were honest with each other and started talking and hanging out more. On February 22, 2016 it became official and the rest is history!
In the five years while we have been together, Alex and I have overcome a lot. Just three months after we started dating Alex left for deployment. We spent the majority of our first year apart but we got through it! It seems crazy to think back on it but we had such a good friendship before we got together so it was not as crazy at it seems. Alex got home from deployment, after what felt like forever, and we enjoyed spending every second together that we could! Our relationship was put to the test again in March 2018 when we were in a motorcycle accident together. Alex spent a couple weeks in the hospital and then months in a wheelchair. We had a great support system that helped us get through that time. The fact that we made it through both of those tough times was proof to me that we could definitely handle anything together. Two and half years after that accident and he finally decided he wanted to keep me around forever. We are both so excited for this new exciting adventure together!
