How We Met: Her Story

It was Saturday, August 11, 2018 and I was at dinner in Buckhead with my parents, my sister Morgan, and her boyfriend (now Husband) Tim, celebrating my parents' 30th anniversary. I had been invited by my new friends from work, Adrienne and Tori, to meet up for some drinks later on, and since Morgan had also graduated from Vanderbilt, we thought it'd be fun to all hang out. After dinner, Tim passed on this "girls night out", but happily agreed to chauffeur us to West Midtown. Soon after we arrived at Ormsby's, Morgan ran into some friends and we were all enjoying ourselves when a handsome man walked upstairs and caught my attention. Our blue eyes locked, and I couldn't look away. It was then that Morgan convinced me to go over and say "hi." Before I knew it, I was introducing myself to my future husband. After a few minutes of small talk, Alex offered to buy me a drink, to which I declined because it was getting late. I could tell immediately that this made him nervous, since he thought I wasn't interested in him. Not so! I encouraged him to get a drink and promised that I would hang out with him while he finished it. By now, the bar had started to empty and Morgan had come over, yet again, to ask if I was ready to go home. I wasn't ready for the night to end. A couple of hours later we closed down the bar. The next day, I was anxiously awaiting a text from Alex. Hours went by and I heard nothing. I checked my phone only to realize that I had never given Alex my number. But, he had given me his. I proceeded to text Alex and he immediately asked when he could see me. We scheduled a date for Friday night, August 17th. Both Alex and I had studied abroad in Italy and, the night we had met we talked about our favorite country. So, on our first date, he took me to the bar at Antico in Midtown where we had a romantic dinner of classic Italian pizza, great music and fine wine. The next week we went on three dates and, before long, I knew I had found the love of my life.

How We Met: His Story

It was Saturday, August 11, 2018. Some of my friends had invited me to go to a casual event for young professionals. I put up a fight because I wasn't in the mood to go out, but ultimately gave in and went. The event was in midtown and after it was over, a few of us decided to continue the festivities at Ormsby's, a local bar in West Midtown. I hung out downstairs for a couple of hours, until it got late and I was ready to go. I ordered my Uber and headed upstairs towards the exit. At the top of the stairs, I noticed a beautiful girl standing at the bar with some friends. I did a double take, but then quickly looked at my phone and tried to act suave. It was too late. Our eyes caught each others, and she started walking over to me. At the time, I had no idea this would be my person. She breaks the ice first and asks me about my Apple watch. It was an easy conversation and we just hung out, talking, and learning about each other. After Ormsby’s closed, we didn't want the night to end, so we just walked looking for another bar. By 3:30 AM when all the bars had closed, we decided to call it a night, but I knew I needed to see Hayley again. The next morning, I was excited to text her, but soon realized I didn't get her number. Luckily, I had given her mine. So, I waited and hoped that I would hear from her. She finally texted me that afternoon and we scheduled a date for the following Friday. We went to Antico’s in West Midtown, ate some pizza, drank some wine, and just had a great time. We hung out a lot those first few weeks and on September 21st, Hayley invited me to a charity event that she would be going to with some close family friends. It was at AquaVino at the Georgia Aquarium where we decided to make it official and become boyfriend and girlfriend. We toasted with some fine wine.
