It all started at table 68 at Party Fowl. I was bartending my last shift, and Alex and his friends came in for brunch. Mimosas were only $2 until noon, so I offered them doubles, as any good bartender would. I noticed he was the only single one at the table, but I didn’t think much of it. They were a fun bunch, but I figured it would end just where it started. When it came time to clean up, I looked to say bye to everyone, but Alex had already bolted down the stairs; when I picked up his receipt, I saw why. He left his number for me. I took it over to my coworker (to whom I had pointed out his perfect teeth earlier) and asked her what I should do. She then asked me, “what if he’s the love of your life?” It seemed like a fair point, so I went for it. He seemed sweet, had great teeth, and could put down some mimosas. I texted him the next day, and life got busy fast. We tried to plan something, but work and life got in the way. Suddenly, it was three weeks later, the world had shut down, and I was scrolling through my phone when I saw the texts from guy I had left on Read for three whole weeks. I sent an apologetic text, and he replied “New phone who dis?” He either had a great sense of humor or he didn’t remember me. Through long conversations and a few jokes about it all, it seemed to be going well. Everything had closed, so we went on a hike for our first date despite every true crime podcast ever. We were in a pandemic; what else were we supposed to do? (I made him promise not to murder me, just in case.) Thankfully, no bodies were found in the woods, and with nothing else to do, we spent EVERY DAY together for the next six months, and through all of it, I am so excited to spend every day with Alex for the rest of my life. If you’re reading this, thank you for the role you played in each of our lives that has led us up to this day. I took a chance on a guy at table 68 and truly found the love of my life... ..and I guess I make some really great mimosas ;)
