We met in our high school O.A.P. class (that's theatre for those of you who don't know). The first year we were acquaintances that didn't really talk to each other. Then the next year Dillon came to school with long hair and I fell in love. Just kidding- it wasn't that immediate. Our competition play that year was "The Great Gatsby" and when I was casted as Daisy and Dillon was casted as Gatsby, I started catching feelings. It did not help that the characters had a kiss in the play (our first kiss being in front of all our classmates and our theatre teachers). Taylor, N'Kendrya, and Kinsey all encouraged me to pursue the showmance but I was simply too chicken. I did however, tell our theatre teacher, Healey, that the couples in the play should go on a date for chemistry (its giving "Mastermind" by Taylor Swift). Healey told Dillon to take me on a date and the rest is history!
Dillon has heard this story many times and he thinks its super cheesy but I think its adorable. Weeks before we went on our first date we were chilling in our theatre classroom in between class and rehearsal. At the time there was a gas station across the street from the school (R.I.P. school gas station) where the theatre students would get stacks pre-rehearsal. I got a bag of Golden Flake brand Dill Pickle chips and probably a diet coke as well. As I was sitting in the theatre classroom eating my chips and minding my own business, Dillon approached with the same bag of chips I had and said something along the lines of "hey, we got the same chips". At that moment I knew he was the one. It was like he had a halo of light surrounding his head and I heard the angels sing. Ever since then I've been smitten with him and Dill Pickle chips.
This is the first time Elizabeth has heard this story and she thinks its sweet. Back when we were both in One Act Play doing The Great Gatsby, we did an exercise to better get into character. Since I was Jay Gatsby, I hosted a party with all the rest of the cast as guests. Elizabeth and I were avoiding each other a bit to build up our eventual meeting at the party. Then we finally spotted each other. I asked if she would share a dance with me. As we were dancing, I looked into her eyes and felt something. I of course thought I was just really into character and that we were doing a great job with chemistry. Obviously, looking back, that was not what that was.
