Alex and Sherri first met about 10-11 years ago at Sherri's parents' church life group. Alex's family had just started coming to Sherri's church and during the life group the kids were, typical of most families, encouraged to interact. They did not. As such, both Alex and Sherri's first impressions of each other were that they were quiet. That day, Alex and Ben picked High School Musical China to watch while the adults were studying the Bible. The movie was iconic, but neither thought much of the other and this was the last time they interacted for the next 7 years.
Alex and Sherri briefly saw each other in 2019 at a New Years Eve party, as Sherri was friends with Sam. Nothing came out of the relationship other than frustration from Alex over some board games with Sherri. It wasn't until Alex came home from Texas in 2020 and became involved with Evergreen's young adult group that Alex and Sherri began to see each other regularly. Alex appreciated how Sherri led during group and worship time. After being home for a year, Alex asked Sherri on a date. They had just finished a worship jam session. Sherri was confused thinking Alex was asking if the two of them could do another jam session just two days later. Thankfully, he clarified that he just wanted a date. Sherri was still confused because she didn't think Alex was interested in her. But she thought and prayed over it for a day and decided she would just go and see what would happen. Although Sherri's impression of Alex was that he was weird and impulsive, she had seen him grow in faith and initiative the past year. They both ordered chicken teriyaki at a sushi restaurant and, to Sherri's surprise, were not too awkward in conversation. They subsequently went on dates every week.
Shortly after they became official in December 2021, Alex told Sherri he wanted to figure out whether they wanted to get married within a year. But Sherri wasn’t ready. After a year and a half of praying for discernment and seeking wisdom from older couples and friends, she finally felt confident about the decision to get married. Within the next two months, Alex bought the ring and popped the question. Sherri said yes. Alex and Sherri love the Lord and firmly believe He has guided them to this point in their lives individually, and they are excited to live for Him together. We are so thankful for the opportunity to share our joy with all of you!
