Our Story

The Wedding Website of Alexander McGaw and Olivia Marshall
Alex and I met in 2020 in Halifax at none other than Split Crow Pub when I walked up and asked him for a beer. A month later, we went on our first date to a driving range. I had never picked up a golf club before but thought, how hard can it be? It was really hard. The dream date I had built up in my head where Alex would help me was quickly shattered by his impatience. While I struggled to make contact with the ball, Alex moved to the next lane and used the opportunity to practice his swing. But for some reason, he asked me out again… and I said yes. We spent the rest of that year going on road trips and starting our Pizza Friday tradition of rating all the pizza shops in and around Halifax.

After I graduated, I decided to stay in Halifax, not at all influenced by falling in love with an Atlantic Canadian boy, and we continued going on adventures. Once Alex graduated, we moved in together and tried out life in the North End of Halifax. And because we seem to love moving, a year later we decided to leave Nova Scotia and try out life in New Brunswick. We bought our first home and spent the year testing our renovation skills. After some trial and error with a small bathroom project, we decided to jump in headfirst and buy a second home in St. Andrews, spending the next winter completely renovating it. Thanks to the help of Alex’s parents, we got the house up and running in time for a summer of Airbnb rentals. We’ve had a few bumps along the way; renovation mishaps, run-ins at the border trying to get a boat across, and plenty of car projects but over the past five years, we’ve filled our lives with fun and adventure: travelling, skiing, boating, and camping. And we can’t wait for this next adventure! Thank you so much for coming to celebrate this day with us. We hope you have an amazing time! PS If you want Alex's side of the story you will have to buy him a beer.
