Question

Why a Love Feast?

Answer

The term Love Feast carries profound Christian significance, tracing back to the early Church, where believers gathered in unity to share in fellowship, gratitude, and divine love. Known as an Agape Feast, this sacred tradition embodies hospitality, spiritual communion, and the unbreakable bonds of faith—values deeply woven into our Catholic tradition. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that the Eucharist is the "source and summit" of Christian life (CCC 1324), underscoring that breaking bread together is more than nourishment—it is a holy act of unity, a tangible expression of God’s presence among us. For us, choosing A Love Feast is a heartfelt tribute to our shared Catholic faith, our spiritual journeys, and the blending of our traditions. Nathalie’s Afrocentric upbringing instilled a deep reverence for community, fellowship, and the sacred act of gathering to share meals. These values resonate with traditions of the African Diaspora, where communal feasts—rooted in ancestral wisdom and spiritual practice—affirm unity, collective identity, and the sacred interconnection of all people. Across many African cultures, the act of sharing food is an offering of peace, love, and kinship, mirroring Christ’s commandment to love one another. For Alex, growing up on a North Dakota farm instilled a deep appreciation for the connection between land, labor, and the food that sustains us. From farm to table, every meal was a reminder of God’s provision, the beauty of hard work, and the sacredness of sharing what we have with others. Our Love Feast is a reflection of these values—faith, family, and the joy of coming together in love. As Psalm 133:1 reminds us, "How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!" Through this feast, we celebrate the love that binds us, the faith that sustains us, and the community that surrounds us.
