On a fateful eve on January 11, 2016, Meghan and Alex met for the first time in the midst of Ski Week at Cornell University. It was the first night dinner that would kick off a high intensity training schedule for the week as the Alpine Ski Team prepared for the season. While the night may not have been the start of our relationship, it does mark the beginning of the beginning of the rest of our lives. Many moons passed, cold Ithaca nights, brutally hot upstate NY summer days. While Alex and Meghan hadn't started dating yet, they had come to know each other and each other's friends. Fate had more plans in store for them, and, on an otherwise unremarkable night, they shared their first kiss within the halls of the infamous Level B in Collegetown. Surrounded by friends and fishbowls, that kiss marked the start of their union. Years went by, and Meghan and Alex continued seeing each other. Even though Alex lived on Staten Island, Meghan accepted him, faults and all. One of their first real dates was when they went to the Whitney in Manhattan and saw a brunch movie at the Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn (they saw There's Something About Mary if you're wondering). With his mind clouded by ambition, Alex set his sights on the City of Angels. His impending lease end date motivated him to find housing in LA, but it broke his heart to leave Meghan on the east coast. Some say it was the hardest choice he's ever had to make. One year, three apartments, and two jobs later: Alex and Meghan were reunited. Alex was still in Los Angeles, and Meghan moved to Catalina Island as a Naturalist with the Catalina Island Conservancy. At first, Alex wasn't happy with commuting to the island, but he learned to love it. After several adventures, including attending the Catalina Wine Mixer, Alex and Meghan moved in with each other in Culver City, CA. In a matter of weeks, the world changed forever. Covid came in full force in March 2020, and Alex and Meghan were not only roommates and partners but also became officemates. Amidst the isolation, Meghan and Alex made the most of their time. Alex taught Meghan to juggle. They watched Game of Thrones and Bojack Horseman. Their friends would join them for dinners and movie nights. Despite the challenges, life was good. In July 2020, another major change arrived. Meghan was accepted at University of Colorado, Boulder to start working on her PhD, and she needed to move to Colorado. With the pandemic in full swing, Alex made the easy choice to join her in Boulder. After 16 hours of driving, they arrived at their new home in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Several years passed, but their love only grew. Their passion for each other blossomed. Knowing that marriage was the next step, they picked out a ring together. Alex spent several months planning his proposal to Meghan, and he enlisted his future brother-in-law to assist him, who in turn enlisted his girlfriend's family and siblings to assist further. Finally, the day arrived. Christmas morning, 2023. Alex knew Meghan would want to celebrate the moment with her family, and he knew how much Meghan loved celebrating Christmas. Initially, Alex didn't understand Christmas, but Meghan and her family were patient with him and showed him the way. Once all the gifts were passed out, one special present remained under the tree that was addressed to Meghan. She opened it and found a scrapbook of photos and handwritten notes, illustrating her life and their life together. The scrapbook ended with his proposal, and Meghan said yes! Everyone cried and laughed and shared in the joy of the day. But that catches everyone up to the present moment. Alex and Meghan writing their story on their wedding website; inviting their friends and family to share in their special day; still in love with each other. They look forward to a bright future together, with so much more story to tell.
