Kayla and Alex met at Temple University in 2015 through their mutual friend, Nick Adams. This is the simple version of how they met... The long version of this story goes like this... Alex was going to his frat's formal with all his roommates from Bouvier Street on December 7th, 2015. They all had dates... until Alex's date unfortunately could no longer attend due to unforeseen circumstances. Alex was about to not attend the formal, but his roommates suggested he should ask Quabs (Kayla) who was friends with Nick. Nick gave Alex Kayla's number and Alex asked Kayla to go. Kayla replied, "hell yeah". They went to Hibachi at Penn's Landing and hit it off. 8 years, two cats, and a house later they returned to Hibachi at Penn's Landing in the first week of December 2023. Kayla had her suspicions that Alex was going to propose. A few weeks prior he went "Black Friday" shopping. Everyone knows Alex barely goes shopping, and he hadn’t even mentioned wanting to go Black Friday shopping. He had been acting nervous that day and asked if he needed to wear multiple coats. But dinner came and went, and Alex had not proposed. On their way out through the Hibachi parking garage Alex stopped Kayla and asked her to recreate their first photo together by posing in front of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Their friends were with them and “conveniently” had a camera. Right as Alex asked Kayla to pose for the photo, a minivan pulled up and out stepped a family with 6 kids and a mother screaming "Get over here" at all her children. Once the mother corralled her kids, she saw the photo op going on and decided she wanted a photo of each of her kids in front of the bridge. She proceeded to take the photos while Alex nervously teetered back and forth waiting for them to leave and Kayla began to wonder what was going on. When the family finally wrapped up their photo op, they decided to take the most direct route to their destination which was one by one, right through Kayla and Alex’s photo op. Alex turned to Kayla and began to say some poorly improvised speech about being together at the place of their first date, at their favorite restaurant Hibachi. Alex stumbled as he got to one knee and then asked Kayla to marry him. She responded “yes, are you kidding?” to which he replied “mhm, oh wait no, no I’m not” and she replied, “thank you” and the deal was sealed.
