About the Bride

About the Bride

Kailey grew up in West Allis and attended St. Jude the Apostle for kindergarten through 8th grade. After that, her family moved to Waukesha where she attended Catholic Memorial High School. She then went on to attend UW-Madison with majors in accounting and international business. She continued her studies for one more year to attain her Masters of Accountancy with an emphasis in taxation. She now works at Ernst and Young (EY) in Minneapolis, MN. In her free time she loves to travel (I bet you didn't know she has been to all 50 states as well as 15 countries on three continents - soon to be 16 countries on 4 continents after our honeymoon!). She also loves challenging puzzles and enjoys canvas painting. Her all-time favorite TV show is Friends and you can find her listening to country music 24/7. In addition, she loves to cuddle her feisty, but lovable, kitty, Josie. She is incredibly excited to become a part of the Borden family and feels blessed to have found the man of her dreams!

About the Groom

About the Groom

Alex grew up in Waukesha and attended Marquette University High School. He decided to go to UW- Eau-Claire where he originally majored in Actuarial Science. After his freshman year, he decided to change majors to Accounting, but retained an Actuarial Science minor. He graduated in Spring 2018 with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. He started his job at Mahoney, Ulbrich, Christiansen, and Russ (MUCR) as an external auditor in September. In his free time, Alex enjoys spending time outside and being in the wilderness. He has visited several national parks, including Isle Royale, Capitol Reef, and Rocky Mountain National Park. One of his bucket list items is to visit and camp in all of the national parks. He also enjoys spending time with Kailey, Josie, and his bunny, Fritz. He cannot wait to add more furry animals to the mix (children will eventually be included as well!). He is excited to join Kailey's family and feels blessed to have found the woman he's dreamed of finding.

How we met

How we met

After her Junior year of high school, Kailey decided to become a lifeguard at Buchner pool, the local pool down the street from her house. There she met other veteran guards, including Douglas Borden (who would eventually become her brother in law!). Two years later, Alex became a lifeguard at Buchner, and worked alongside Kailey for a summer. Alex thought Kailey was cute, but he wasn't as brave as Squints Palledorous and never acted on his feelings. Kailey later admitted that she thought of him as only a "rookie guard", and didn't have any feelings until after that summer. During the fall after Alex's first summer, Kailey began to challenge Alex in Trivia Crack (a popular app at the time) in an effort to keep in contact (and occasionally flirt) with him. The next summer, Alex and Kailey began to flirt more often, and began their (at the time) clandestine relationship on July 13, 2015. And the rest is history!

The Proposal

The Proposal

Alex picked Kailey up on the morning of January 13, 2018, their 2.5 year dating anniversary. He took her down to the lakefront to recreate one of their first dates: watching the sunrise over Lake Michigan and going to eat breakfast at Cafe Benelux. What a wonderful idea! ....or at least it was when he was planning it. When the date came around, the temperature outside had a real feel of negative 16. Needless to say, they were freezing. At least Kailey had the coffee Alex brought her to keep her insides warm! At 7:30 on the dot, he got down on one knee and proposed. It was magical! And Kailey's sister caught the whole thing on camera! Alex even brought champagne to celebrate the big moment! ...which froze around the walls of the glass immediately after taking a sip. They then went to thaw out and celebrate over a lovely breakfast at Cafe Benelux! It was most definitely not the same as that first date 2.5 years ago, but it was by far more memorable!!
