How We Met

It all began during the annual Chicken Chase in downtown Indianapolis — a lively bar-crawl-style competition and tradition among Alex’s coworkers. Many people brought friends and family to join the fun, and as luck would have it, Alex’s coworker and friend Gracie brought along her close friend Gwen. After the competition wrapped up, the group eventually settled at Tin Roof. That’s when Gracie casually dropped the line that would change everything: “Hey… my friend Gwen thinks you’re cute.” Fortunately, Alex had already noticed her — and with the help of a little liquid courage — walked straight over to introduce himself. Their connection was instant. They spent the rest of the night talking, laughing, and bar hopping with the group, completely absorbed in each other’s company. Alex texted Gwen the next day, and they made plans for the following weekend. And just like that, everything began to fall into place!

The Early Days

The first months were filled with memorable surprises. Gwen already had two cats, while Alex had none — until a tiny orange kitten wandered into Gwen’s backyard one evening. Alex took him in without hesitation, and suddenly the couple had three cats who quickly became the best of friends. That fall, Alex and Gwen took their first trip to Red River Gorge and fell in love with the area. The magic continued to grow over the following months, as they spent weekends together alternating between Alex’s apartment in Westfield and Gwen’s home in Franklin. About a year later, they moved into their current apartment on the south side of Indy — Alex working full time, and Gwen balancing part-time work with school.

The Proposal

In April 2024, during their second trip back to Red River Gorge, Alex proposed at a waterfall at the end of a very long hike (despite Gwen’s well-known dislike of hiking). Thankfully, she still said yes — with her mom and best friend there to witness the moment. It was perfect, in their own adventure-filled way. Just a month later, Gwen was accepted into an incredibly competitive dental hygiene program! Wedding planning had to pause, but Gwen absolutely excelled, earning top grades, forming meaningful friendships, and showing the same determination that Alex had admired from the beginning.

Where We Are Now

Over the past year and a half, their love has only grown stronger as they supported each other through busy schedules, late-night study sessions, long workdays, and every little milestone in between. They’ve built a life full of love, laughter, adventure, and three very spoiled cats. Now, with Gwen nearing the end of her program, Alex and Gwen are finally ready to plan the celebration they’ve been looking forward to — and they couldn’t be more excited to share it with the people they love most.
