Like a true modern romance, we met by a swipe on Bumble. We began texting and within hours Alexander invited me out for a drink at Gypsy Kitchen the next day. Par for the course, he was unfashionably late. After we finished our "let's test the waters" cocktail, we both agreed to move to a dinner table and didn't stop talking for 3 hours. Our food was barely touched. The cherry on top was when the waiter brought us our bill. He asked "So, how many years have y'all been together?" Little did he know it was our first date, and little did we know it would be our last First Date ever.
Before spending Christmas with family, Alexander and I took a quick overnight ski trip to Whistler. I was anxiously hopeful an engagement would happen either on the mountain or during our spa day, but changed my focus to celebrating Christmas Eve with family as we started the drive back to Vancouver still as boyfriend and girlfriend. Great minds think alike - it was his plan to propose during our Whistler getaway, but I was so exhausted that Alexander decided "She would have been the least energetic fiance on this planet and was basically falling asleep in her dinner plate". The next morning, we drove onto the ferry to return to Alexander's mother's house on the island. The quick ferry ride has breathtaking views and we always walk to the front of the boat to take pictures while underway. After a few selfies, he passed the phone to a stranger to snap a picture and then dropped to his knee. Best. Christmas. Ever.
