The best Aviary in the entire state of North Carolina. Perfect for any nature lover; roughly 1 hour drive from wedding location.
In addition to boasted an acclaimed farm-to-fork menu profiled by the Tar Heel Traveler, it is also has the best pastry chef we know (Alex!). Make sure to order desserts!
Alex and Carr's church community in the Roanoke Valley essentially from day one. If the stellar worship, strong community and meaningful messages weren't enough, first-time visitors also get a free cookie!
A beautiful state park perfect hiking, camping, celebrating anniversaries and even running marathons! It was not however, a great place for your cars' alternator to fail you at night...an excellent place for everything else!
One of the greatest attractions in the Roanoke Valley! A 7.5 mile long running trail that connects Weldon and Roanoke Rapids. Carr used it for coaching Cross Country in the fall, we walk the part of it behind Alex's house, hang out in the Roanoke Rapids Day Lake Park, and even took some of our engagement photos there! Bike Rentals are available on the Weldon end as well!
Our favorite greasy spoon/local diner in the area. Just a 30 minute jaunt from Alex's house, the comfortable environment and great food make it a must-see!
Another excellent local restaurant positioned in the middle of Northampton County. It is equestrian themed, but don't let that fool you: one of the best burgers you can find!
Positioned on the Weldon end of the Roanoke Canal Trail, we spend a great deal of time here for fun and shopping needs. You never know what great furniture, antiques or other collectibles you might find!
The Roanoke Rapids end of the Canal Trail. Perfect for hosting Cross Country, birthday parties and just casual space to have a good time. Complete with a solid frisbee golf course
Carr's place of work teaching high school History since graduation. While they will be out for summer break, students may be at work preparing for football or in summer enrichment programs for STEM education. Make sure to stop by on the way to the wedding, it goes along the same road!
One of our favorite stomping grounds! A bit of a drive, but the good eats, quality bars and the scenery are well worth it. Check out their free Summer Music series if you can (some of Alex and Carr's first dates happened at those concerts...).
