Love at first spite

Alex and Arliss' meeting was anything but traditional. The two met when Arliss joined an online call, where her best friend and now maid of honor, Emmie, was arguing with Alex, who she didn't know at the time. As part of an inside joke, Emmie was trying to get him to fake marry her to beat someone in an online race. Alex, being the troublemaker he is, refused, stating she needed to wine and dine him first. Eventually, she left the call after which Arliss immediately said, "Alex, we should fake marry for her to see out of spite." Alex let out a loud, long belly laugh and said, "That is a fantastic idea, I'm in!" A practical joke on January 14th, 2022 was only the beginning of this unconventional relationship. What started as the two jokingly calling each other "spite spouse" turned to genuine friendship, then turned to hesitant feelings. When Alex met Arliss for the first time in Texas, there was an instant connection. From long distance, to moving cross country and living together since, the two's bond only became stronger, and on January 14, 2026 they tied the knot, officially becoming husband and wife. They still lovingly call each other Spite Spouse to this day.
