Great question! We can't emphasize enough that the #1 answer for coastal NorCal is LAYERS. It will get cold quickly at night, and perhaps during the day as well if the fog rolls in. But to be more specific: Friday Night (Outdoor Dinner): Comfortable footwear to explore the farm, your nice-casual best, and layers for the sun going down as we eat outdoors around the pizza oven. Saturday (Ceremony, Dinner, then Dancing in the Barn): Garden Cocktail Attire, with layers for the cold and shoes that can trek over dirt and grass! That could mean a fun dress or romper. That could mean a comfortable suit. That could mean a collared shirt and a statement jacket. Think natural, and wear something you love- and bring a jacket. Footwear: For wedding day itself, most of the events are within a few hundred feet of each other and don't require much walking, however you will be walking over grass and dirt trails so wear footwear that can accommodate. If you'd like to explore the farm further on wedding day (down to the river or a short hike up the viewpoints) you could bring a different pair of shoes -- or do those on Friday instead.
It is a 12 minute drive from the Wharfmaster Inn (and town of Point Arena generally) to Oz Farm. Uber and Lyft are NOT an option. There is parking on site at Oz, but not a ton- ideally please carpool or take the shuttles to and from events on Saturday. Saturday Shuttles, sponsored by Alex's brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Anne!: We will have a 14 passenger shuttle running between the Wharfmaster Inn in Point Arena and Oz Farm from 2pm-4pm on Saturday, then again from 10pm-12am on Saturday. Shuttles will depart from Wharfmaster at ~2pm, 2:30pm and 3pm. **Please email us at alicewedale@gmail.com if you know you want to take the shuttle and your preferred time.** And you can leave your car overnight and take the shuttle back to the Wharfmaster- that's what it's for! We'll all be at the Farm again Sunday, so it's easy to get back or have someone bring you your car the next day.
Well, we recommend our "Things to Do" tab for lots of local options, indoors and out! But also as we get to the week itself, based on the weather there are many activities on the farm or nearby- think walks along the coastal cliffs, wine and art in the local towns, birdwatching, mountain biking, rock climbing, and more. You are very welcome to be at the Farm anytime Friday and Saturday- there is seating in and around the Barn, trails to wander, and a river to swim in if it's warm enough. We'd love to have our community there all weekend. We also strongly recommend this stunning coastal hike while you're in town: Point Arena Stornetta Lands -- You can access it from driving to the Point Arena Lighthouse, or start the hike directly from downtown Point Arena (trailhead at City Hall).
We are hosting this at the farm on Friday evening. You are welcome to arrive as of 4pm and we will begin to serve pizza and salads around 5:30pm. We will be outside all night, so while the dress code is "dressy-casual" as always we recommend bringing layers to stay warm. The pizza oven will be burning hot and we'll have a campfire roaring as it gets dark. On Friday, we'll have an opportunity for toasts over the course of the dinner. If you would like to give a toast that night, we would welcome it! We are not providing shuttles on Friday, so please carpool if you can!
Please arrive at Oz Farm on Saturday by 3:30pm (but you are welcome to arrive earlier), ceremony will begin promptly at 4pm. Then we'll move onto cocktail hour in the garden, dinner outside, and dancing in the barn once it gets dark. We will be outside until the dancing begins, so once again we recommend bringing layers (we will have heat lamps too but just don't know what the weather will bring!)
The farm is lovely and has very little cell service, so you might have trouble getting hold of us starting Thursday when we arrive on site. There is great wifi in the barn and main wedding area (but other service will be carrier dependent). Please email alicewedale@gmail.com if you're unable to get in touch with us. We'll be checking that whenever we can in case texts or calls fail.
Yes, we welcome your kids at our wedding! But if you'd prefer to find a local babysitter, our wedding coordinator has recommended a few local sitters during the events, or off-site at your lodging. If you'd like to be connected to them, let us know and we'll give you their info.
There is a lot of Poison Oak on the property! (East Coasters, think Poison Ivy). If it's shiny dark red or green and growing out of the hedges... don't touch it. Don't touch hedges generally. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxicodendron_diversilobum
Reasonably rustic! https://www.ozfarm.com/ To get straight to some key details that may matter to you whether you're staying on site or only spending much of the weekend there: Cell Service: There isn't really WiFi: There is! But only by the main Barn. Not at the various cabins or around the fields. Running water: There is, and it's potable! Electric lights and power for chargers: There is! But it's really for phone chargers and that's about it (and USB plugs, not normal outlets).
