We met in early August of 2021 on Hinge. Alexa liked a picture of Tyler on his boat first and; the rest was history. We matched on a Wednesday night; Alexa opened the conversation: Alexa - “I couldn’t find an opening lime, 🍋 Tyler - “When life gives you lemons?” Alexa - “Order the lobster 🦞 We moved on quickly from Alexa’s lemons and spent hours chatting on the app. Tyler asked Alexa out on a date the next day for Saturday. We exchanged phone numbers and then spent hours texting on iMessage. Many hours were spent discussing the greatness of the show, Ted Lasso. Our first date was at Kettlehead Brewery in Tilton, NH, about the middle distance between us. We matched with a 50 mile radius and ended up being 42 miles apart. We enjoyed 3+ hours of conversation while each only having 2 drinks and sharing an appetizer. Our server was not that happy with us. After that night, we went on a few more dates, but it was pretty clear after date #3, spent on Tyler's boat exploring Squam Lake, that our relationship was getting closer and closer. Before long we knew we were falling in love. Fast forward to 12/10/22, and we got engaged at the Holderness town beach on the edge of Squam Lake.
Our usual Saturday routine, we went skiing at Cannon Mountain, it is our favorite place to be in the winter. Unfortunately, we have not had the best snow this winter, and the skiing was pretty bad that day, and our 3 favorite trails (where Ty wanted to propose) were closed because there wasn't enough snow. So despite the ring being in his pocket the whole time skiing, we walked back to the car and started driving home. Ty's mind started racing as he needed to figure out a new plan; he knew he wanted to propose that Saturday. So off we went back home; Alexa was talking the whole drive about having friends over that night for wine and cheese and everything we needed to do to get ready. All the time, he was nodding his head, smiling, trying to come up with a new plan. Finally, about halfway home, a new plan came to mind. So we got off our exit and drove right past our driveway; Ty said we had one more stop to make. Alexa thought we were going to one of our favorite sandwich places, Squam Lake Marketplace, for a post-ski snack (best turkey club sandwich ever made). We drove by SLM, and then we headed out pas the boat ramp. At this point, Alexa didn't know what was going on. We pulled into the Holderness beach road and walked down to the water. Ty asked Alexa probably 5 times if she wanted to go swimming as his heart rate rose. He got down on one knee and pulled the ring box out of his pocket saying "I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, will you marry me?". Alexa said yes before Tyler even opened the box. It was an absolutely perfect moment, just us. The lake was beautifully still and peaceful. Squam Lake already held a special place in our hearts from our summers on the lake and now its an even stronger connection to such a beautiful place as Squam Lake.
