The couple's story began one late evening at a local Starbucks in Chula Vista, CA. Alexa saw Jekiel for the first time, and noticed he was reading quite a thick heavy book while sipping on warm coffee. Who reads in this day and age?! Curiously, Alexa, who was waiting for a friend at the time, approached with a smile and asked, "What are you reading?" Jekiel, clearly interrupted from his studies, but as the kind gentlemen he is, responded "Oh...an anthology of music!" and politely conversed with this random inquisitive stranger for an hour. It wasn't long before she took off with her friend, never to be seen again...or so he thought. One year later, Alexa and Jekiel met again at a different Starbucks in town. Recognizing him, she walked over and asked "Hey, do you remember me?!" while she placed her book bag and laptop on his table and took a seat! Although a little surprised, Jekiel grinned and responded, "Yeah...I remember you." Coincidentally, Alexa and Jekiel would continue to run into each other at a different Starbucks every few weeks, bonding over their shared love of learning, coffee, travel and Michael Jackson music during their study breaks. It wasn't long before Alexa learned that mid-semester, Jekiel was also enrolled in the only music class she had ever taken. And yes, she continued to say "Hi" to him in class. Shortly after, on one of their Starbucks study sessions; Jekiel finally asked Alexa if she would like to go on a hike with him. She said YES! Little did she know they would end up getting lost on their first hike together because they spent their time chatting and laughing about Spanish phrases Alexa was trying to teach Jekiel half way through their adventure. Don't worry....they made it back okay, but this time, with a friendship they couldn't ignore. A few karaoke and stand up comedy dates later, and the rest was history! Their adventures together have continued ever since...
