We live on Mt. Washington, it is one of our favorite places in the city! You can walk on Grandview and enjoy the beautiful view, take the incline to Station Square, or walk to plenty of great restaurants. We recommend Steel Mill Saloon for drinks and bar food, Bigham Tavern for wings and burgers, Gordos Tacos for margaritas and tasty Mexican food, and Altius for an upscale dinner with the best view in the city! If you like a cute flower and gift shop, Armful of Flowers has a lot of unique items.
The Strip, as it's called, is foodie heaven and as authentic as it is fun. The Strip District has a vibrant mix of old-style grocers and gourmet food shops, street stands selling produce and t-shirts, upbeat bars, classic Italian eateries, and sandwich places. We recommend DiAnoia's for amazing Italian food, Sandbox VR for an immersive game night, Putt Shack for bar munchies and interactive mini golf, Novo Asian Food Hall for a variety of different Asian cuisines, Cinderlands for a boutique brewery, and Coop De Ville for a lively retro bar with arcade game and duck-pin bowling. This neighborhood is walkable, so you can plan for multiple activities during your day here.
North Shore is a lively area in the city with sports games, restaurants, bars, and museums. If home games align with your travel schedule, we recommend attending a Pirate game at PNC Park or a Steelers game at Acrisure Stadium. The North Shore is packed with plenty of bars and restaurants such as Southern Tier, Shorty's Pints and Pints, and Tom's Watch Bar. If you want a nice dinner on this side of the city we recommend Nicky's Thai Kitchen and Alberta's Pizza (make sure you make a reservation here). You can take the T (the subway under the river…it's free) or walk to Rivers Casino, The Andy Warhol Museum, Mattress Factory, Kayak Pittsburgh, National Aviary, Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Science Center!
This is one of our favorite spots! The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. It is a beautiful museum with dinosaurs, animal/nature displays, architecture, art, and rotating historical exhibitions. We recommend Pamela's Diner for a good breakfast spot in Oakland before visiting the museum, CHiKN for Nashville Hot Chicken tenders and entrees, and Dave and Andy's ice cream for a sweet treat afterwards!
