According to Alex: After Heidi drove 10 hours to her new apprenticeship and then attended 2 back-to-back births with one eye open, she saw the response she was looking for. Heidi had been stalking Alex online for 3 months (Heidi edits: not really, but close enough). He responded that he was interested in getting to know her better. Heidi was stuck in Mormon land (Provo, Utah) getting her required education to deliver babies in small inflatable tubs. It was the perfect time to fall for the future love of her life. After many Facetime Video calls, Heidi decided to rush back to Colorado so she could meet her Knight In Shining Armor (actually driving a blue Subaru). They met face-to-face for the first time at a Thai restaurant and shared Heidi's favorite cuisine. Then Heidi took Alex to a tea shop and enjoyed connecting over some delicious hot tea (despite that Heidi doesn't like tea). They are now in love and enjoy each other's company often, despite the countless interruptions from the multitude of kids under one roof!
In early 2018 Alex asked Heidi and the kids to move in with him and his boys. They took 6 months to plan and moving day was coming up fast! Katie, age 8.5, asked Heidi to host a farewell party at her home. Little did she know that Alex also had plans! Four months earlier Heidi, Alex, and Katie went to Costco. They split up to get the shopping done faster. Katie was with Alex. On her own accord, she asked him when he was going to propose! She recommended that he should go to the Shane Company, a local Colorado fine jewelry company. After we were done shopping Alex told Heidi how he got a kick out of Katie’s interrogation. His last line to Heidi was that Katie had no clue what his plans were! In reality, he had already purchased the ring, and yes, it was from the Shane company. Part of the plan for the party was to celebrate that Heidi had finally passed the NARM, which is the board examination to become a midwife. At the end of the night, Heidi’s teacher was saying some kind words. Just as she finished Alex came forward. On one knee Alex asked Heidi to become his wife! He then had Katie (who had asked in Costco to help him propose) bring out a dozen red roses. Of course, Heidi said yes!
On December 30th, 2019, Alex and Heidi ventured out and found a little wooden footbridge over a tiny mostly frozen creek in the middle of the San Isabel Mountains. Without a cloud in the sky in the warmth of the morning winter sunlight (it was a whopping 3° out) the two of them faced each other and read their handwritten vows. They took some beautiful pictures and then raced to the warmth of the car!
As most of you know, we have been planning our wedding to happen on New Year’s Eve 2020. But due to the pandemic we chose to postpone the ceremony and reception. Alex and I made a promise to each other on December 30, 2019 at our Bethrothal, that we would get married a year and a day later. With the blessing of the State of Colorado we are allowed “self solemnize” just the two of us! We went back to the tiny foot bridge in the middle of the woods to say our special words to each other. (Look at the photo page to see some pictures!) Now don’t fret that you missed it, we are planning to have our ceremony and reception on June 18, 2021! We HOPE we can invite our orginal guest list of people, but we will wait until late spring to decide who we can actually invite in person. I did ask Alex if we get to have 2 anniversaries a year: New Year’s Eve and June 18th. What do you think? Yay or Nay? Lol
