The BBG is a quaint escape from the city if you want an afternoon surrounded by nature. There are always fun events and workshops going on so be sure to check their website prior to your visit. Nearby, you'll also find the Brooklyn Museum (where we had our first date), Prospect Park, and the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. Food tip: One of our favorite taco places is Nacho Macho Taco (417 Prospect Pl.) in the neighboring Prospect Heights. Affordable, fast, friendly...and most importantly delicious. Alex says: Get the fish tacos!
We loved visiting the MoMATH. It's a family-friendly space where you can ride a bike with square wheels, solve puzzles, draw, build, and create. We might've been the only ones there without kids, but hey, who says adults can't have fun while learning too? Food tip: Koreatown is just a few blocks north of the museum and has no shortage of delicious eateries. We've recently been enjoying New Wonjo (23 W.32nd).
Carroll Gardens and Cobble Hill are two neighborhoods, conveniently located next to one another, that we love for strolling on a beautiful day. We'd suggest grabbing pizza at F&F (459 Court), treasure hunting at Yesterday's News Antiques (428 Court), discovering unique ice cream flavors at Malai (268 Smith), and finding your next favorite read at Books are Magic (225 Smith).
If you have time, we definitely recommend visiting this iconic New York City museum. We can spend hours wandering through its gorgeous exhibits, learning about earth's creatures big and small. Matthias suggests looking for the big blue whale (you'll know it when you see it). Alex's favorite: The Hall of Biodiversity (so many things to look at!). Food tip: The Upper West Side is also home to the original Levain bakery (where you can find some of our favorite giant chocolate chip cookies) as well as beloved gourmet grocer, Zabar's (2245 Broadway).
There's nothing like a summer trip to Coney Island! This landmark Brooklyn attraction has been drawing in crowds of locals and tourists alike for over 100 years. We'd recommend starting your visit with a bite to eat at Nathan's then strolling the boardwalk. Shop fun and kitschy souvenirs and fill up on all your carnival must-eats (ice cream! funnel cakes!). If you're not terribly afraid of heights, we'd also suggest riding the legendary Wonder Wheel for an unforgettable view.
