Racing culture is huge in Italy and it so happens the World Rally Championship will be in town the wedding week - check out the cars near the port and the drive through the historic center.

Cagliari
The capital of Sardinia and the largest city on the island. While it's a bit far for a day trip (3 hours from Alghero) the city is a great place to spend a couple of nights and enjoy the cafe culture, nearby beaches such as Poetto and Mari Pintau and the winding roads by the sea.
Bosa
Picturesque village about an hour from Alghero. Spend the night if you're touring the island or come for a day trip on a cloudy day. Can you climb all the way to the castle?!
