For lodging, we suggest Airbnb. North Park, Hillcrest and Mission Valley are all about 15 minutes from the house with great walkable restaurants.
If you prefer the beach, check out Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach and Mission Bay, complete with a rollercoaster and delicious fish tacos.
And if hotels are more your thing, these are good and close.
