Before they ever dated, Liz and Ryan would occasionally run into each other around San Francisco. The Mill. Alamo Square. House parties. City Church’s donut station. (Ryan remembers one time at the after-church donuts Liz said to Ryan, “I’ve been looking forward to this donut all week,” and then she walked away.) They had mutual friends from college. Ryan always thought Liz was cute and friendly. Liz thought Ryan was mysterious and handsome. Liz and Ryan’s love story officially began in September of 2015 on just another Monday night. It was the monthly City Church Happy Hour at Rusty’s Southern Barbecue Restaurant. They wound up sitting together at a table and hit it off talking about food they liked, the week’s news, and current events. When it was time to go, Liz confidently told Ryan that if he ever wanted to “get some Indian food,” she’d be down. Ryan soon followed-up with a Facebook message, “DEFINITELY up for some Indian food this week!” A date was set at Liz’s neighborhood Indian buffet restaurant that Friday night. As the meal started Liz channeled her inner Terry Gross (one of her idols) asking Ryan, “So what makes you love travel so much?” Ryan loved the question, and off they went from there: Food. Travel. Books. Movies. Camping. Politics. Religion. Family. Friends. Community. Current events. All conversations they’re still having! Liz was drawn to Ryan’s empathic and humble demeanor, and thought he might even be as smart as her dad. She found herself surprisingly intrigued by his man bun, VW Vanagon and nomadic ways. Ryan was drawn to Liz’s love of life, her conviction to advocate and care for those in need, her evident love for friends and family, and her excellent gift-wrapping skills. Liz embodied her motto of “Love it!” and Ryan found lots to love in her. Liz says Ryan has brought innumerable new things into her life; from double-bacon cheeseburgers to . . . see the rest in the FAQ's! (out of character space).
