¡Nos casamos!

Ale and Rodrigo met during their sophomore year at UNC Chapel Hill through their campus ministry group, Every Nation Campus. There were definitely sparks at first sight, and living in the same dorm made it easy for their friendship to grow. Rodrigo helped Ale with her math homework (shoutout, Kumon), they watched This Is Us together, and even went to Latin Night, where they danced together for the first time. Even after all that, guidance from close friends and our gut feelings stopped either of them from making the first move. It wasn't until the end of their sophomore year (on April Fool’s day to be exact) that Rodrigo told Ale that he liked her. She wasn't expecting it (like at all) so naturally, she friend-zoned him. Ouch. That whole summer, Ale thought about Rodrigo and wanted to talk to him, but after what she’d done, she knew she couldn't just reach out. Needless to say, the start of their junior year began with a lot of unspoken unknowns between the two of them, but deep down, they both still had feelings for one another. Rodrigo even helped Ale move into the White House on her first day back in Chapel Hill (he was still in the game). A couple of weeks in, Ale decided to reach back out to him and tell him how she had been feeling. Ale asked their friend, Derek, to let her pick Rodrigo up from the airport instead. She was so nervous the whole drive there and even more so when she was talking because he had the biggest poker face EVER. Despite his nonchalance, his heart was racing, and of course, he responded that he was still interested in Ale. LET’S GOOOO! A couple of weeks later, they went on their first date to the NC State fair. From the beginning, everything felt so natural, so it wasn't long before Rodrigo asked Ale to be his girlfriend at one of their favorite spots: Duke Gardens (these Tar Heels got lost, we know). The rest of their college time was filled with trips to the Dean Dome, Jeni's, and the beach. They both knew things were getting serious when, after two years of dating, they decided to make trips to Mexico and Costa Rica, the motherlands! After their trips and meeting extended family, a full-circle moment would bring them back to the place where it all began: Duke Gardens, and that's where Rodrigo popped the big question!

Ale y Rodrigo se conocieron durante su segundo año en UNC Chapel Hill a través de su grupo de ministerio universitario, Every Nation Campus. Definitivamente hubo chispas a primera vista, y vivir en el mismo dormitorio hizo que su amistad creciera fácilmente. Rodrigo ayudaba a Ale con su tarea de matemáticas (gracias, Kumon), veían This Is Us juntos, e incluso fueron a Latin Night, donde bailaron juntos por primera vez. Aun después de todo eso, el consejo de amigos cercanos y sus propias intuiciones impidieron que cualquiera de los dos diera el primer paso. No fue hasta el final de su segundo año (el 1.º de abril, para ser exactos) que Rodrigo le dijo a Ale que le gustaba. Ella no se lo esperaba (para nada), así que, naturalmente, lo dejó en la “friend zone”. ¡Ay! Durante todo ese verano, Ale pensó en Rodrigo y quería hablar con él, pero después de lo que había hecho, sabía que no podía simplemente escribirle. Ni qué decir que el comienzo de su tercer año empezó con muchas incógnitas no dichas entre los dos, pero en el fondo ambos seguían teniendo sentimientos el uno por el otro. Rodrigo incluso ayudó a Ale a mudarse a la White House en su primer día de regreso en Chapel Hill (seguía en la jugada). Un par de semanas después, Ale decidió volver a contactarlo y contarle cómo se había estado sintiendo. Ale le pidió a su amigo Derek que la dejara recoger a Rodrigo en el aeropuerto en su lugar. Estaba muy nerviosa durante todo el camino y aún más cuando empezó a hablar, porque Rodrigo tenía la cara de póker MÁS grande de la historia. Bajo su expresión tranquila, su corazón estaba acelerado y, por supuesto, respondió que todavía estaba interesado en Ale. ¡VAMOOOS! Un par de semanas después, tuvieron su primera cita en la feria de Carolina del Norte. Desde el principio todo se sintió muy natural, así que no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que Rodrigo le pidiera a Ale que fuera su novia en uno de sus lugares favoritos: Duke Gardens (sí, estos Tar Heels se perdieron, lo sabemos). El resto de su tiempo en la universidad estuvo lleno de visitas al Dean Dome, a Jeni’s y a la playa. Ambos supieron que la cosa iba en serio cuando, después de dos años de noviazgo, decidieron viajar a México y Costa Rica. Después de esos viajes y de conocer a la familia extendida, un momento de cierre perfecto los llevó de vuelta al lugar donde todo comenzó: Duke Gardens, y fue ahí donde Rodrigo hizo la gran pregunta.
