FAQs

Question

I've never been to a resort in Mexico, what should I expect?

Answer

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres is an all inclusive resort. You can expect good food, good drinks, and comfortable accommodations. Expect to relax by the beach or pool with your drink of of choice. It will be sunny and warm, so pack accordingly. For the wedding, your only requirement is to be present for the ceremony/cocktail hour/reception on the 9th - the rest of your stay is entirely up to you!

Question

...what does all-inclusive mean?

Answer

No worries! Michael doesn't know what it means either. "All-inclusive" means nearly all food and drink, as well as tips, will be included in your stay, with some exceptions, which are usually depicted with a symbol on menus (this technically makes it a "most-inclusive" as there are always exceptions). Typically when ordering food or drink during your all inclusive stay, you simply order whatever you like, then sign the receipt given to you when you are finished, and the price of your stay will remain the same regardless of how much you ordered. So order to your hearts content to make it worth your while! However, there are some common exceptions you will likely run into. When ordering drinks at a bar, certain cocktails might call for the bartender to inform you of an "extra charge," this is the most common exception. For example, the RedBull in a vodka RedBull may be an extra charge because it is packaged separately in it's own can. If you'd like to order anything that has an extra charge, you are welcome to, but keep in mind that it is not part of the "all-inclusive" package and you will receive a separate bill for it - a receipt at the bar, and a bill at check-out where all the extra charges accumulated during your stay can be taken care of together. An important thing to keep in mind is how tipping works with this format. Your all-inclusive package will automatically include the tip for your server or bartender. You can add an additional tip on top of this, but keep in mind it will be treated as an extra charge you will pay for at check-out. A great way to show even additional appreciation for truly fantastic service is to bring some extra cash for your server or bartender, but this kind of additional tip is not required or expected.

Question

How do I make a reservation with the resort? What do I need to purchase to attend?

Answer

You will be purchasing an all inclusive stay at Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres through our travel agent, Betty Velazquez (see travel tab for more info) This includes your hotel room, access to the hotel pool/beach, any food/drinks ordered at restaurants or bars, as well as many other activities/entertainment. You can find a list of everything offered by the resort at their website: https://www.hyattinclusivecollection.com/en/resorts-hotels/secrets/mexico/playa-blanca-costa-mujeres/activities/

Question

What is covered by the wedding vs what is covered by the package I purchase for my stay?

Answer

Food and drink for the ceremony/reception/cocktail hour is provided by the wedding. Your package for the resort will cover food and drink at the hotel amenities.

Question

How long should I make my reservation for at the resort?

Answer

We recommend flying in May 8th and flying out May 12th (although you're welcome to extend your stay for as long as you like!) While it's possible to fly in the morning of the wedding, we recommend arriving a day early so you can enjoy the resort! Michael and Alex will arrive at the resort on May 6, and leave May 12th.

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Please RSVP by January 16th, 2026. If you miss the deadline, unfortunately we cannot include you in our final count of the wedding ceremony.

Question

Do I get a plus one? How many people can I bring?

Answer

Wedding activities have a limit of guests that are able to attend. While you're welcome to come to the resort with friends, please keep in mind that they may not be able to attend certain activities depending on how many extra seats are available, if any, pending completion of the RSVP list.

Question

Is the resort kid-friendly?

Answer

The resort is an adults-only resort. Everyone staying at the resort is required to be 18 or older.

Question

What's the dress code? How many activities will there be that require a certain dress code?

Answer

The dress code for the wedding ceremony/cocktail hour/reception is cocktail! Keep in mind, expected temperatures are going to be in the 80s. Given the schedule, there will be no time to change in between events. The resort does require certain dress attire at some of the restaurants: they are all either casual, beach casual, or casual elegance (depending on location). You can find the list of restaurants and attire at their website linked here: https://www.hyattinclusivecollection.com/en/resorts-hotels/secrets/mexico/playa-blanca-costa-mujeres/dining-drinks/

Question

When there isn't a wedding activity going on... what should I do? Can I leave the resort and come back later?

Answer

When there isn't any wedding activities going on, you can do whatever you want! You are more than welcome to exit the resort to explore Cancun whenever you would like, just be sure to get back to the resort plenty of time before any scheduled activities.

Question

The resort says Costa Mujeres, but the address says Isla Mujeres. Is the wedding going to be in Cancun, or specifically on the island? Will we ever go back and forth?

Answer

All wedding activities/events will take place at the resort, which is not on the island. If you choose to take a day trip to the island, you're more than welcome to!
