Aleia & Brady’s Story

Not your typical “how we met story”

Brady and I met through a mutual friend, Madeline Mellon! Brady went to high school with her in Isle, MN, and I played basketball with her at Central Lakes College. Maddey texted me one day saying “one of my friends from high school is single, you should text him”. Not thinking much about it, I texted him thinking it would be short lived considering at the time he was stationed in Norfolk, VA. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months of talking, skyping, and phone calls. Although we never met, sparks flew and conversations never got dull. Funny thing is, I met Brady’s parents before I met him!! It made me nervous because I liked his parents, but what if we didn’t hit it off when we finally met? After 4 months, we finally met. He surprised me, and my reaction was nothing short of awful. I hit him a few times (friendly hits mind you), but still! I have never been so nervous in my life. It was weird seeing each other in person, but it was pretty great. At that point, we considered ourselves dating, and in a long distance relationship. I was in Brainerd, MN, and he was still in Virginia. For about a year and a half lots of money was spent on airplane tickets. But not a day went by that it wasn’t worth it.

Asking for the Father’s blessing

Brady was going to fly home and ask for my dad's blessing, but plane tickets being expensive, a phone call would do. Brady postponed this phone call for quite some time due to nerves, as expected. When the time came they talked about anything and everything before the topic came up. When Brady finally asked for my dad’s blessing, my dad got out 1.5 words before the line cut out, my dad's phone died! I got a phone call from Brady freaking out, because he didn’t know if my dad hung up or if his phone died. A while after my dad charged his phone, they finished the conversation, and long story short he got Troy’s blessing. :) I’m sure at the time it wasn’t funny to either Brady or my dad, but I sure got a good laugh out of it.

The Proposal

It wasn’t until after Brady and I got married that I “made him” get down on a knee and pretend he actually proposed. We did not have your typical proposal, but that’s okay. It was a mutual decision to get married, and Brady doesn’t like rehearsed speeches, so I saved him the trouble.

The Wedding Day

04•04•2019

At this point, there was no engagement ring or big ceremony. I flew into Norfolk Airport the night before the wedding and was expecting my Grandpa Louis to meet us for breakfast the next day. The only family we were expecting was my grandpa, but the morning of the wedding at breakfast, my mom surprised Brady and I! After breakfast we went to the courthouse to get our marriage license, then we went home to get ready, and as expected, it took me a bit longer to get ready so Brady got in a few Call of Duty games. LOL. We were getting married at a little place in Virginia Beach, where some of our closest friends would be for our special day. We had a wonderful photographer to capture the day. The weather was beautiful. I wore a white dress, and Brady wore a navy blue suit. Though the day was not like the typical wedding day, it was nothing short of the best day of our lives (so far). After we became Mr & Mrs Haggberg, we went to the Cheesecake Factory for a celebratory dinner. As we wished our official wedding date could have been spent with our whole family, we were thankful for all who could be there on such short notice.

Our “Second Wedding”

01•18•20

Though April 4, 2019 was one of the best days of our life, we are going to celebrate our marriage in January. We want nothing more than to celebrate our love with the people that mean the most to us!
