Alec and I first met during college through my Big (sorority sister) Abby who had also went to high school with Alec. Abby played matchmaker and tried to get us together but Alec was VERY SHY and I wasn't particularly interested at the time. Not until Abby's post-undergrad party, did Alec and I hit it off. Jenga was involved along with a tequila shot. Soon after, Alec messaged me on Facebook asking for my number. I replied back but didn't realize I mistyped my number. He ended up realizing this and messaged back that he must have asked some random person to get dinner with him. Oops! We were both in the East Lansing for the end of summer and we went on a few dates over the next several weeks. Alec would visit me during my early morning shift at Biggby on his way to work. One morning, my coworker mentioned, "you guys should totally date" after Alec made his daily appearance. I thought it was funny so when Alec and I hung out later that day, I told him what she said. A few hours later, Alec brought up what my coworker said and he asked me if I wanted to "officially date" even though he was starting law school in a few weeks and I would be moving back to my parents.

My birthday was coming up and lo and behold, Alec used this as a cover-up for his Grand Scheme. A nice restaurant was "booked" for my birthday but his work friend had recommended it so he still wanted to take me there. So a few weeks before my birthday, Alec made reservations for this restaurant. We got dressed up and took a drive to the surprise restaurant. We made our way into Detroit and arrived on Belle Isle. I was thrown off since I did not remember there being a restaurant on Belle Isle and since the park was setup for the Grand Prix. Alec casually suggested getting a selfie by the fountain. We got near the fountain and Alec started kissing me. He took my hands and faced me. He started stuttering about our relationship and I don't remember the specifics but he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I SAID YES! I was beside myself. I couldn't see through my happy tears. We struggled to get the ring on my left hand and he then points to Jenna and Jacob who were secretly capturing the special moment. We got some pictures and had time before our dinner reservation so we called some close family and friends to share the big news. We had a lovely dinner and made our way back to Royal Oak. Alec's friends were at the bar so Alec suggested that we meet them for drinks to celebrate. We arrive to the bar and as we walk in, the entire place starts clapping and cheering and I start to recognize the faces of our family and friends. BEST. DAY. EVER.
