Down the Aisle (in the cadaver lab)

“Is there anything in my nose?” --my first words to Drew at our master's program initiation ceremony. I felt a tickle and was nervous because there were a couple photographers taking pictures of everything. Long story very short, our program had 16 people (12 made it out alive) and we all spent almost every day together in class or on campus, in the lab, or studying. There is no way to say this without it sounding weird, but each of us dissected a human body with a partner and Drew and his lab partner were the only other duo in the same row. My first impressions were “Wow, he’s always so focused” and “Ew I wonder if he realizes his hair is dangling into the cadaver tub." We ended up studying together every day with our friend Lori and on a day I felt very ill and looked worse than I felt, Drew confessed he liked me. I was shocked given my state of being, but knew it had to be real. Drew has always shown up in every moment it has counted and then some. He is incredibly busy with medical school but still goes out of his way to make time for us and make me feel like a valuable woman. One of many examples is him listening in on a conversation I had with one of our professors—very brief—about a candle making place she went to with her husband. I said something along the lines of “that sounds so fun” and two weeks later Drew asked if I would like to go out with him to Candle Co in Dundee. Another example is our time at Departures when he says a prayer over me before I hop on a flight. Drew hasn’t read this yet but Drew, when you do read this, know I love your pure heart and solid foundation. Some of my favorite moments are when we are rundown from a long week but still dance in my kitchen like crackheads and make each other laugh. I trust your ambition and instinct and am here to support you and pray for you always as well as be there at your side no matter how hard the world/life/devil tries to beat us down. It’s crazy to think that two years ago you were the guy I would sneak glances at during lab and now our relationship will be the most important one under God. I’m excited for what we will overcome and accomplish and I love you so much. To anyone reading this, thank you for being a part of this celebration and we can’t wait to party with you all!
