We first laid eyes on each other when Kaleigh showed up at Nick's Bible study. She was there with her friends, and Nick was nice enough to chat with her and make her feel welcome. Kaleigh spent the next few months trying to be Nick's friend, but everyone knew that she was crushin' hard.

Kaleigh was convinced that no one knew she had a HUGE crush on Nick. She told her best friend, Dana, that she had a crush on someone in their Bible study, but she wouldn't tell her who. So Dana waited, and waited, and plotted... until she had her perfect moment. Dana took Kaleigh to her endoscopy, and waited until after she was driving Kaleigh home, high as a kite (Kaleigh was, not Dana - just to be clear). Dana finally asked "OK, so who do you have a crush on?" and Kaleigh started crying "you already KNOW...... everyone knows but HIM!".

Kaleigh wanted to get people together to go to the Taco Fest at COSI. Turns out, Nick was the only friend who could come. So it would just be the two of them... and Kaleigh was tired of waiting. Nick had fully convinced himself at this point that Kaleigh was just being nice, and that there was no way she had a crush on him. So Kaleigh made it super clear and texted him, "Hey, this taco truck thing tomorrow - do you want this to be a date? Because I do." Cue 24 hours of no response from Nick. He finally responded "Yes, sorry, I've never been asked on a date before so I kind of freaked out."

After a couple of dates, Nick decides it's time to ask Kaleigh if she wants to make it official, or to be boyfriend/girlfriend, or make it Facebook official, or whatever you ask people to do these days... except he didn't ask any of those things. No, instead he just said, "Hey, I'm really tired of having to be nervous at the end of every date, wondering if you'll say yes to another date with me, and then I have to wonder every week... do you want to just keep doing this?" Most unclear "make it official" question EVER. But Kaleigh didn't let it stop there, clarified that that's what he was asking, and then they both celebrated.

Nick had NO idea what he was in for with Kaleigh. She decided, in a span of 3 months, to start a 3-year program to completely change her career path. But he supported her through all of it, and just two short months after they started dating she started that program. Then came the next several years of date nights being homework, laundry, and dinner on his couch.

One year rolls around, and Kaleigh thinks, "Yay! Maybe it's time for marriage. I am 26, he's 33. This feels right, right?" Ha! Wrong. God said "just wait a minute..."

Two years rolls around, and Kaleigh thinks "YAY! Finally time for marriage NOW, right? It's been two years, I'm 27, he's 34, we're getting older, we've figured a lot of our stuff out..." and Nick thinks the same! They talk about marriage, and Nick says "it's coming soon". Little did Kaleigh know that "soon" meant a few months, rather than a few weeks...

Nick held Kaleigh off for months, saying "well, the ring got lost in the mail..." and "if I tell you why it's taking so long, you'll spoil it for yourself!". The day came for their engagement, and Nick thought he was being super sneaky (although he literally told Kaleigh a few days before to "wear something nice, but comfortable shoes - we might walk a little!). Nick recreated their first date, including the rain somehow. They went to Dublin North Market for dinner, and walked across the bridge to go to Jeni's. A little ways down the bridge, Nick pulled out a very long, very nice speech (which he wrote down, thank God, because Kaleigh doesn't remember a bit of it). He proposed, then several of their good friends popped out to congratulate them on their engagement. Kaleigh specifically told Nick not to do that, but thank goodness he didn't listen to her, because the pictures and the memories were completely worth it!
