Dan and I met at Sonoma State three years ago. He was in the Graduate program and was working on his Adaptive Physical Education (APE) credential, and I was finishing up my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. We were both in the same class and didn’t really talk to one another until the end of the year when we were paired up to work on a “getting to know you” assignment. This was a perfect icebreaker for us as it was all about our values, family, religion and what mattered to us. We started talking and just hit it off right away and couldn’t stop talking!
Dan proposed to me on the 4th of July! He had me light a street firework and after much protest, I finally lit one. After I lit it, I backpedaled so fast I practically ran him over! He then tried pushing me toward the firework and I was being so stubborn! He finally grabbed my hand and said we would just get a little closer. With him, behind me, I knew I was safe, and when I turned around he was on his knee! I was so surprised I had no idea he was planning it on that night! Of course, I said yes!
