There's the "real" first time we met, back in 2008, when Michael was at Hobart and "retiring" from coaching, and Al applied for his job. They spent a lovely day together touring the campus and having a nice lunch, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. Al was offered the position, and politely declined. Now, fast forward 10 years. Al has spent his career as the assistant and then Head Coach at Bucknell and now serves as the Associate Head Coach at Dartmouth College. After several years at Hobart, Michael has moved east and works at Yale University (#itsayalething). They have one mutual friend. Enter Paul Bugenhagen. Paul is the Head Coach at Hobart and previously worked with Al at Bucknell. We like to joke that he "knows two gay people", so he texted us individually and asked if he could pass along our respective phone numbers. After some casual banter and emojies back and forth, Al agreed to stop by New Haven on his return home from seeing family down the Jersey Shore. So, after 10 years of waiting, Michael greeted Al with a large Hendrick's Martini and a reservation at Geronimo's Tequila and Wine Bar and the rest, as they say, is history!
