As you all know, we have been together since April of 2014. What started off as strangers in passing, quickly morphed into something more. Almost nine years later and we’re still just as in love now as we were back then. “We loved with a love that was more than love” - Edgar Allan Poe •••A short story of our first date.••• Erica’s POV: I remember seeing him from time to time since we lived close by in the beginning. I kept telling myself that, “yes, he’s cute, but not my type.” I kept telling myself that there’s no way he’d be interested. Well, he was interested. He had to ask me out on a date multiple times before I said yes. I kept declining because I was scared to take a chance with him. He finally got me to agree to a “movie date with friends”. That movie with “friends”? Hahaha it was him with one other guy friend that was completely stoned out of his mind and had no clue about the date. I still laugh every time I think about how much he went through just to get a date with me. We ended up going on our first, real date a few weeks later. We saw Three Days To Kill and had dinner at Pete’s in El Dorado Hills. You know how most dates end with a kiss? Ours didn’t… not because I didn’t try, but because when I walked him up to the door of his parents house, he already had his key in the lock and was opening the door. I asked him if I could give him a kiss goodnight. Jake opened the door, looked me dead in my eyes and said, “No, my dad is watching.” Sure enough, I glanced up and Rob was staring at us. He quickly went into his house and slammed the door in my face. I remember standing there, staring at the door wondering if that really happened. 😂 Needless to say, I didn’t get a kiss that night, but I knew right then and there that we have something special. We still continue the tradition of seeing movies almost weekly. And yes, I get my kisses goodnight. I can’t wait to kiss him goodnight for the rest of my life. Jake’s POV: I remember seeing this cute girl and wanting to know her more. After getting to spend time with her on our “first” date, I knew I wanted a real date with her. I remember her feisty attitude when she told me that she will be paying for dinner while I pay for the movies so the date would be equal. We had dinner at Pete’s. My girl decides to order fettuccine Alfredo. I think at some point she got so comfortable with me that she forgot she was on her first date with me because as I’m watching her eat, her noodles start flapping and Alfredo sauce is on her cheeks. She paused and suddenly remembered that we were on a date. Her pretty little face turned so red and cute that I couldn’t help but chuckle and help her wipe the sauce from her cheeks. During the movie, (before reclining seats were a thing) she laid her head to rest on my lap and I remember combing my fingers through her hair and thinking to myself that this girl is special. She completely let down her walls and let me love her from the very beginning. As for not kissing on the first date, well.. I got nervous and I knew that if I kissed her, I’d be done for so I said the first thing that came to my mind, and luckily, Pops actually was watching. As I look back on our first date, I’m thankful we decided to take a chance on each other because while our relationship hasn’t been easy, it has been absolutely worth it. Movie dates are still our thing, but now we always kiss each other goodnight. Thank you for reading our story. We can’t wait to create more memories together as Mr. and Mrs. Alberghini.
