Despite both of us studying elementary education at Wright State University and living on campus, we hadn’t met until senior year. Though she didn't know it at the time, luck was on Alayna's side when there was a mix-up while signing up for classes. She was placed in the opposite cohort from the one she had been in and was supposed to stay in through her senior year. She was now a part of the same cohort as Shaun. One day during class, Alayna was sitting at her table when Shaun walked in, joined her, and introduced himself. As we got to talking, Shaun offered to drive Alayna and her friend, Lily, to "Free Wiener Wednesdays on Tuesdays" after class. Of course they said yes and after grabbing their hot dogs, they ditched Shaun and went on their way. The next week in class, Alayna and Lily were talking about heading to a sunflower field after class with two of Alayna’s siblings. Shaun practically invited himself along. During the car ride, Shaun caught everyone off guard by belting out Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” with such confidence. From that moment on, we were inseparable. We spent every chance we could hanging out on campus, laughing, and going on spontaneous adventures with our friends. After months of building a friendship, we started dating in June of 2020. Since then, we’ve shared countless memories together-including starting our teaching careers, buying a home, and adding our precious dogs, Lumi and Junie to our family. We can’t wait to continue growing together and bringing each other happiness, every day.
