It all started in 2020 with a swipe—technically, Grandma Joyce’s swipe. Alexa was at the casino with her Grandma Joyce, scrolling through Hinge and getting expert opinions on potential matches. When she came across Jay York and Joyce said, “That’s a good last name.” With that, she swiped right for Alexa. Jay’s first message? A swing and a miss. He saw a photo of Alexa at Spring Awakening Music Festival and asked if it was Electric Forest. It wasn’t. (It wouldn’t be the last time he was wrong.) A few weeks later, they went on their first date. It went so well they ran out of places to go, so five hours in, they ended up at 5th Ave. Jay’s friends showed up and just like that, Alexa got a sneak peek at the future. In February 2022, they expanded their little family, adopting Koda—a now 4-year-old pit bull who runs the house. Their favorite thing to do together is go camping in northern Michigan, where Koda thrives—hiking, hanging in a hammock and snuggling up by the fire. Then came October 12, 2024, a very eventful day. Not only did Jay propose but they also put an offer in on a house. Both were accepted and now they live in Ferndale figuring out homeownership and planning a wedding.
