Things To Do

"The city is amazing. It’s hot, the music is awesome, and the tacos are for real.” - Darryl Philbin, The Office, S9E27
South Congress Avenue

South Congress Avenue

South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78704

The quintessential Austin experience. Take a picture by the "I love you so much" wall, grab some za at Homeslice (the eggplant pizza is the bomb), let your freak flag fly at Lucy in Disguise with Diamonds, or go see some live music at the historic Continental Club. While you're there go check out Alana's alma mater St. Edward's! It's got one of the best trees and one of the best views of the city in town. Go Hilltoppers.

Zilker Metropolitan Park

Zilker Metropolitan Park

2100 Barton Springs Road, Austin, TX 78704

With an incredible view of the city and so much room for activities, Zilker is just the best. Whether you feel like working out, throwing a frisbee, watching some dogs run around, or straight up falling asleep in the middle of a park, Zilker is your place. It's home to Austin City Limits music festival and is easily Austin's most-loved park. While you're in the area be sure to check out Barton Springs Pool! It's cold, but some of you Midwesterners may be brave enough to jump in.

Ramen Tatsu-Ya

Ramen Tatsu-Ya

1600 East 6th Street, Austin, TX 78702
, (512) 893-5561

ALL HAIL RAMEN! We got it on our first date at a different ramen joint in town (Michi. Also good.), and then Andy joined Alana in becoming a regular at Ramen Tatsu-Ya. Tatsu-Ya serves up authentic Tokyo-style ramen in a super cool environment. We usually pregame here before trivia on Tuesdays. Slurp.

Torchy's Tacos

Torchy's Tacos

2809 s 1st st, Austin, TX 78704
, (512) 444-0300

There are lots of taco places to choose from in Austin, but Torchy's is a necessary part of any Austin trip. We stay true to form and order at least one Democrat every time. Torchy's has the best chips and queso in town and Alana will uninvite those who disagree.

Tacos Guerrero

Tacos Guerrero

96 North Pleasant Valley Road, Austin, TX 78702
, (512) 939-2308

Mmk. So you went to Torchy's and the queso was bomb, but you're longing for something more ... authentic. We got you. We go to this family-owned food trailer at least once a week. Their al pastor is the stuff of dreams. Pro tip: breakfast tacos on flour (harina) and all others on corn (maíz) tortillas. Bring cash and brush up on your Spanish skills for this one. Other taco joints worth checking out: Native Grocery, El Papalote, Veracruz, Las Trancas, Las Cazuelas. Trust us, at least one of us is a taco snob. (It's Alana)

Alamo Drafthouse

Alamo Drafthouse

1120 South Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704
, (512) 861-7040

Go catch some movies at Alamo Drafthouse, the coolest theater around. We absolutely love this place and have spent many nights in there. The original location, called the Ritz, is in the heart of Dirty 6th Street if you're lookin' to rage after a showing.

Juniper

Juniper

2400 East Cesar Chavez Street, Austin, TX 78702
, (512) 220-9421

The Executive Chef may be Alana's brother, but this is one of the best restaurants in Austin and that is a truly unbiased opinion. They serve incredibe Northern Italian inspired dishes in a beautiful space. Also, our presence will be graced with the talented mixologists of Juniper at the wedding. If you're blown away by our signature cocktails (which you likely will be), just imagine what they're whipping up over at Juniper.

Whisler's

Whisler's

1816 East 6th Street, Austin, TX 78702
, (512) 480-0781

Whisler's is a cocktail bar that serves up one of the best Old Fashioneds in town and is right in our neighborhood - lucky us. On the weekends there's an intimate mezcalería upstairs that always smells like palo santo. But wait, there's more! Their food truck Thai-Kun is absolutely delicious. Our recommendations: Cabbage Two Ways and Waterfall Pork.

Cheer Up Charlies

Cheer Up Charlies

900 Red River Street, Austin, TX 78701
, (512) 431-2133

Cheer Up's is probably our most frequented bar and has everything we love about Austin: live music, good drinks, delicious vegan food, and a space that's welcoming to people from all walks of life. It's the perfect place to grab a drink before heading over to Barbarella.

Barbarella

Barbarella

615 Red River Street, Austin, TX 78701
, (512) 476-7766

“If I die on the dance floor at Barbz, I will have died doing what I love the most.” - us
