We were good friends in primary school until I moved away. Years later, my family moved back "around the way". I asked around about George for months. One day, I was walking home from my summer job. He approached me and introduced himself (as if it was really necessary). I tried to play it off like I didn't remember who he was; but in actuality, I was so elated to have him standing before me. We created an effortless friendship that lead into a type of love neither of us expected. On April 12, 2004, George asked me to be his "girlfriend". Sixteen years later, on April 12, 2020 we will say "I Do". .....................Atleast I thought we would. Then COVID happened Now we are making this a Forever Thing on April 30, 2021.
It was my 29th birthday. All I really wanted was to be around friends and family and dress up. George made arrangements for a birthday dinner by the water. To my surprise, George wore a suit for me. I could not keep my eyes off him as this is not something I am used to. As we approached the dim lit restaurant, a photographer stepped out capturing our conversations and laughs. Friends and family awaited our presence. We enjoyed a nice dinner and now its time for desert. I asked for a cheesecake and couldn't wait to taste it since the food and ambiance was so perfect. Instead, they put a huge box in front of me and began singing Happy Birthday. I opened the box!!!!!!!! My heart dropped to my feet and tears rolled down my face uncontrollably. The cake read “Will You Marry Me". With all of the screaming, clapping, and photos being taken, my in focus was George on his knee and a ring in his hand. The moment I have been waiting for. Apparently very few knew what George had planned. So you could imagine the surprise in the room. Of course i said "YES"
