Alan and Marie Claire met through a nursing organization called "Assembly of Nurse Scholars" in 2017. Their first interactions with each other were fairly simple and ordinary. Then in April, the organization planned a group day trip to Big Sur. During that entire day, Alan and Marie Claire felt an undeniable connection towards one another. Even in the group setting, it felt as if it were just the two of them. It was an unforgettable feeling. After that day, they both realized that there was nothing ordinary about what they felt, but rather something extraordinary.

Alan and Marie Claire embarked on their first vacation to celebrate their 4-year anniversary. From snorkeling at Molokini Crater, jumping into the Venus Pools, driving an ATV in the mountains, to watching the sunset at the peak of Mt. Haleakalā, Alan and Marie Claire embraced the beauty Maui had to offer. April 17th was the last day of their trip. Every hour was planned out to make the most of their last full day in Maui. Towards the end of the day, they attended the Te Au Moana Luau. It was at this Luau that Alan had planned to propose to Marie Claire. He had spent weeks coordinating with the staff regarding the proposal, especially since there were still pandemic regulations. Midway into the Luau, they were both called onto the stage. Alan was very nervous and had not eaten much during the provided dinner. Marie Claire was excited and under the impression that they were going to dance along with the performers. Once they both set foot on stage, Alan professed his adoration for his girlfriend of 4 years. Then, Alan got down on one knee and asked Marie Claire to spend the rest of her life with him. Full of emotion, Marie Claire cried and nodded "yes."
