We met at Vanderbilt University in the cardiac ICU (CVICU). Alan had been an ICU nurse for a couple of years when Kate made the transition from a cardiac step-down unit just down the hall. Alan & Kate had noticed each other prior to Kate starting in the CVICU, but didn’t formally meet until Alan was selected to be Kate’s preceptor (a one-on-one educator) to help her transition into the ICU. The 9 weeks of training were immediately followed by a celebratory end-of-orientation dinner (aka, the first date)… and as they say, “the rest is history”!! K: The picture above is the first photo taken of us together, in May of 2021, on my back porch in Nashville with our beloved PomPom “Miles”. The photo below was my first trip to Knoxville to meet the wonderful Moore parents! 💕 A+K: We are so eternally grateful God brought our paths together. Alan is my hero / Kate is my best friend. We look forward to every day together He blesses us with. ❤️ Thank you all for your support and love for us!! Our wedding will be a private, immediate family-only event. We appreciate your understanding.
As travel nurses, we have had the opportunity to travel across the country together while continuing to make incomes. We started out in Fairfax, Virginia then made our way to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio followed by Boston, Massachusetts. While in Cleveland, we both applied to CRNA school, and while in Boston, found out we both were accepted into the number 1 school in the country in Richmond, Virginia. ❤️ At the time of our wedding, we will be halfway through CRNA school -- a goal we have individually had for many years prior to meeting. The fact that we get to accomplish this goal together (we make the best studying team!) is a gift from God. We are so incredibly blessed, and beyond excited to see what adventures await us in the next chapter as husband and wife!
The backstory has to be explained to allow for the full effect of how special this proposal really was! First, Alan's family has an endless amount of personal history tied to the James River, which just so happens to run right through Richmond, Virginia where we are attending CRNA school. Second, working in DC during the summer of 2022 allowed Kate and Alan to attend the 4th of July celebrations on the National Mall -- a beautiful day that instantly became a symbol of all the experiences to look forward to together. Plus, the 4th of July has always been one of Kate's favorite holidays! Third, on the 4th of July, 2024, Alan was required to dress in semi-formal attire to complete a recorded assessment as a homework assignment. After he completed the project, Alan and Kate decided to walk down the Capital Trail in Richmond (just outside of their home) to watch the fireworks. Kate decided to dress up to match Alan's semi-formal look. They walked down the path when Alan suggested they sit on a private bench along the bank of the James River, just off the Capital Trail. Together they sat and watched the fireworks over the water, then after expressing how grateful they were for each other, Alan proposed. ❤️ Through tears of joy, Kate shouted, "YES"! The engagement ring is a brilliantly blue sapphire, selected in part to match Alan's mother and sister-in-laws' sapphire engagement rings, but also to match Kate's sister's ring. Coincidentally, it is also Kate's favorite stone. 💎 The start of this next chapter of our journey together was perfect, to say the least. We cannot wait to celebrate our love and officially be Mr. and Mrs. Moore!
