If you plan on trying this option, the earlier you arrive the better. Metered parking in the area has a two to three hour time limit. The Laguna Beach Parking App can help you navigate metered parking in the area. There are a few lots within a ten minute walk that are paid parking: 501 Glenneyre St, 375 Broadway St, and 241 Broadway St. Finally, you can go straight to Lot 10 (Laguna Canyon Road Lot) or Lot 11 (Forest Drive/Laguna Canyon). Both lots are paid parking and you can take the free trolley from there. The trolley runs every 20-30 minutes so if you choose to go this route, please be aware of timing.
