Due to the ever-changing information regarding covid-19, we have decided to move our wedding to September 12,2020 at Alana's parents house. This gives us the ability to have a completely outdoor event, with space to social distance. Please only join us if you feel comfortable doing so.
Alana and Jake first met in sixth grade. Although they had many classes together, they never really interacted until their senior year. The summer before school started, their marketing teacher assigned both of them to compete in the public relations category for DECA competitions. This meant that they were offen seperated from their class to study for the competition with a few other classmates. While they were supposed to be studying, they often ended up goofing off and getting to know each other (don’t worry, they still crushed the competition :) ) Although they both liked each other it took the entire school year for them to FINALLY admit it. Typical teenagers. By graduation, they were officially a couple and coincidentally (?) they had both committed to attending Ohio State to study marketing the next year. Jake and Alana dated for a couple years before taking a break in their relationship for a while. They both eventually realized they were better together than apart and got back together by the time college graduation came along. Their first post-graduation jobs took them to different parts of the country, with Jake in Michigan and Alana in New Jersey. Being in a long distance relationship brought its challenges but they made it work with many long weekend trips, FaceTime calls, and faith that they would eventually live in the same zip code. Eventually Jake moved to Indianapolis for a new role and within 6 months Alana found a job in Indy and moved in with Jake! They also adopted their first cat, Hershey, during the same month. They were officially a family of 3! In the 3+ years since then they lived in a few apartments in Indy, adopted another cat named Alfie and finally bought their first home together in Fishers, Indiana. In May, they added third fur baby to their family when they adopted their new puppy Minnie.
In March 2019 Jake and Alana traveled to Las Vegas for a long weekend to meet up with her family who were there for her sister Mia’s soccer games. They had a great weekend and the big moment happened on the very last day of their trip. Without Alana knowing, Jake had somehow snuck the ring in his carry on and had it with him all weekend. He brought it hoping that he would be able to propose, but wanted to wait for the right time and to be able to talk with her dad, Kurt. Luckily, on the second night there, Alana went to bed early and left Jake and her dad to play craps on their own. It was during this time that Jake was able to get Kurt’s blessing and they began hatching a plan. Within the next couple days they got her mom, Mindy, and her Grandma Sandy in on the plan. They knew better than to fill her sister Mia in because they knew Alana would know something was up. On the evening of March 17, the whole family went to The Bellagio hotel to see the Conservatory and garden decorations (a family favorite). Later, Alana would note that Jake was VERY concerned with their outfits and appearance. They entered the gorgeous garden and paused on a bridge. At this point Alana handed Mia her phone and said “take a picture of me and Jake”. As they posed for a picture, Jake took Alana’s hands, turned to her, and got down on one knee. Alana stood shocked, as she was the one who initiated the picture, while Jake made a speech before asking the big question. Through her tears, Alana was able to nod her head “yes” while the crowd that had stopped to watch cheered. After taking a lot of pictures, calling Jake’s parents and all their friends, they went to a restaurant and celebrated their perfect moment with a bottle of champagne.
