Alaina and Will met while they both pursued engineering doctorate degrees at Rutgers University (spoiler alert, Alaina didn't stay there long!). Alaina asked Will to dinner only to find out three days later that she would be transferring to Johns Hopkins University in just a few short months.

Alaina moved to Baltimore full-time, but for Will this was more of a part-time position. Alaina got on the road to NJ several times, but Will travelled nearly every weekend to Baltimore, where he called "home". Here they were fortunate to make some lifelong friends, explore a new city, and learn that they kinda like each other. During this stretch of their relationship, they estimate that Will drove at least 23,000 miles back and forth to visit Alaina. His car got him there and back safely, but inexplicably needed a fresh left headlight every month.

Just weeks before her thesis defense, Will convinced Alaina to go on a weekend trip to a cabin in the Catskills. Alaina was pretty sure Will planned to propose, but lost hope after spending the weekend hiking to beautiful waterfalls with no ring. She was surprised when Will shook her out of bed at 2am to propose to her under a meteor shower.

Alaina and Will moved into their first apartment together after defending their theses and finding jobs (Will confirmed that he doesn't miss his weekly 3 hour commute). They spent their time exploring their new city: trying new restaurants, going to concerts and baseball games - but unable to find a decent pizza slice.

Will and Alaina adopted Lucy! An opinionated 20lb Podengo, Lucy has stolen their hearts and a decent amount of memory on their cellphone cameras.
