How We Met

Reunited...and it feels so good

It all started during our Junior year of college when Kweku came to visit family and party at U of I Urbana-Champaign. We became fast friends, and over time had mutual interest in one another. It seemed our interest was always untimely and it never matured to us dating. We even stopped communicating as friends for some years. In April of 2019, almost 15 years after we first met, we reunited at a community event. It was like we were meeting for the first time. We rebuilt our friendship and on May 15, 2019, we decided to make our relationship official. Our relationship has been a true testament to Ecclesiastes 3: 11. It is indeed our time and has been nothing short of beautiful!

The Proposal

Thanksgiving 11/26/2020

It's Thanksgiving, and the Agyeman family decided to have a virtual Thanksgiving event due to the "panoramic." Ha! Each family was in their own home and the order of ceremony was to show off what each family cooked and to each share what we were thankful for. Everything went according to the program until Kweku began to share what he was thankful for. This turned into him sharing his gratitude for all of God's blessing during 2020, us reconnecting, and our relationship. In the presence of his family and my family virtually, he then got on one knee and said, "I would love love love everything to be sealed before the end of this year, by His grace. I thank God for everyone being here to witness this. I would like to ask Akua to marry me." For a good, long 5 minutes, I had the most dumbfounded reaction in proposal history. I hid my face in the couch, cried, tried to figure out how and why we got off script of the virtual thanksgiving program, and reminded everyone that we were supposed to be eating. I couldn't believe God had favored me in this way and during those 5 long minutes I was trying to process what was happening. Then I realized he was still on his knees, and I exclaimed, "Of course!!" and gave him the tightest hug ever. The surprise didn't end there.... My family and friends put together a video sending me well wishes for our engagement and a slideshow of pictures of Kweku and I. I was floored. It indeed was the best Thanksgiving ever and I was full (not just from the good food...lol)! We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you!
