How We Meet!!

March 10th, 2021

Our story began in a place neither of us expected JROTC. I had just transferred to a new school, trying to find my way around and adjust to everything that felt unfamiliar. Neil was the CSM at the time, confident in his role and known for helping wherever he was needed. One day, I asked Major, one of the JROTC instructors, if I could go to the library to check out some books. Even though I mostly knew my way around the school, I didn’t have every hallway memorized yet, so Major asked Neil if he could walk me there. Neil agreed without hesitation, and that simple moment, a routine walk to the library, became the beginning of everything. As we headed upstairs together, we talked a little, but both of us were quietly curious about the other. When we reached the library, something small but unforgettable happened; we both reached for the door at the same time. Our hands touched, we smiled without even thinking, and we each apologized while still smiling. It was one of those tiny moments that instantly felt meaningful, even though neither of us said that out loud. Instead, we slipped into a conversation about books, what we liked to read, our favorite genres, and random stories we enjoyed. What was supposed to be a quick stop at the library turned into the start of a connection we didn’t fully understand yet. Because inspection was coming up, we exchanged numbers so we could talk during practice, but soon our conversations went far beyond anything related to JROTC. One day out of the blue, Neil added me on Snapchat. I added him back, and before long, we were watching each other’s stories, reacting to them, and using any excuse we could find to start talking. What started as simple conversations slowly turned into hours-long chats where we realized how comfortable we felt around each other. One day, while we were talking, the topic somehow turned to crushes. Neil asked me directly if I had a crush on him. I tried to avoid the question, not because I didn’t feel anything, but because I didn’t know how to admit it yet. Eventually, we ended up on FaceTime, and every bit of hesitation I had disappeared the moment I saw him smiling. I started blushing immediately, and the funny part was that he was blushing too. Something about that moment made everything between us feel real. It was sweet, natural, and completely effortless. From that point forward, our story unfolded on its own. What began as a simple walk to the library turned into daily conversations, inside jokes, shared interests, and a growing feeling that neither of us could ignore. We didn’t rush anything; everything happened in its own time, in the most natural way possible. Looking back now, it’s clear that every small moment, every smile, every conversation was leading us exactly where we were meant to be. What started as two students crossing paths in JROTC became a friendship, then a connection, then a love story that has carried us all the way to this moment. And now, as we step into the next chapter of our lives, we still smile thinking about how it all began with a walk to the library, a shared door handle, and a spark that neither of us expected but both of us are forever grateful for.
