Set the scene at a dojo in Leimert Park. Where you learn the art of karate and self defense. Place two unlikely people, Ra’eesah and Jabril, in said dojo with the determination to get their lives back on track and get consistent training. They pass a few As- Salaam-Alaikums here, a few Wa-Alaikum-Salaams there’s but it never gets pass that. Skip scene to a few months later. Now they’ve seen each other both consistently at the dojo and at the mosque. This makes it easier to start conversation. It changes from giving the greetings here and there to asking how each other’s day is, Raeesah being walked to her car, and also her trying to crack a joke here and there to start conversation. It all started light. They didn’t know each other but their families were very close. They didn’t know each other but they shared the same birthday. They didn’t know each other but two very unlikely people with two completely different taste in music found interest in each other. Thanks to 21st century and modern technology they became friends online and began getting to know each other. By May of 2018 they were courting and trying to see how realistic this can become. On March 9 the bigger question was asked and she said yes. And on August 11, by Allah’s grace they will say their vows.
